Denton is a city in Texas, United States. The population was 97,503 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Amarillo County and the fifteenth-largest city in Texas. Denton was founded by pioneers in 1859 as an agricultural town on the east bank of the Arkansas River. The first post office opened in 1860, and Denton became a county seat in 1871. In 1905, it became a state capital; it has since been moved twice (to Austin and then to Dallas). The city's downtown district is one of the most vibrant areas of Amarillo County, with restaurants, nightlife, and arts venues abound. The history of Denton can be traced back to 1859 when pioneer settlers began moving into what is now Amarillo County from eastern Kansas Territory. They named their new community "Denton," after James Hargrave Denton who had recently arrived from England with his family. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in what is now central and southern parts of Denton Township while also expanding into other portions of present-day Amarillo County. In 1905, following passage of legislation creating Texas as a republic under President Theodore Roosevelt, the City Council chose to become the capital of new state Texas instead of Wichita Falls which then served as itsold capital due to its larger population size at that time (averaging around 100,000 people). At first glance this may seem like an insignificant decision – after all only Wichita Falls had more than 1/4th of Texans living within its boundaries! However given that cities such as Dallas (population 7 million) and Houston (population 20 million) were rapidly becoming dominant statewide leaders in terms of economic development during this period – making Wichita Falls appear antiquated – it’s easy to see why Denton made this important choice for our fledgling state Capitol Complex. As Texan capitals went through various changes over time – including being moved again (this time to Austin) between 1935-1956 before returning once more to Wichita Falls until 1962 - it was always interesting to note how closely related each incarnationof our State Capitol Complex resembled those same iconic buildings located just outside our borders: red brick courthouse façades facing east across wide lawns bordered by high white fences; imposing clocktower dominating one end whileediently silent spires dominate the other; sleek blue dome atop handsome contributing tower housing both administrative offices and government hearings rooms…It would be almost 30 years until we would experience another change within our State Capitol Complex when property adjacent to current location was leased out for use as office space by then Governor Rick Perry during his term as Govt Services Director [emphasis added]. Notwithstanding some initial concerns about potential environmental impacts due to development activity on adjacent land including construction at several former military barracks dating back to World War II – ultimately these concerns were resolved without causing any significant damage or long-term impact on either environment or community fabric [emphasis added]. Today’s City Center area contains many reminders not only from early days but also from later years including Independence Hall which still stands today (!), original jail cells built near actual water sources used today for animal husbandry purposes due north near Tyson’s restaurant; original Post Office building complete with attached Custom House still standing next door today which served as classrooms for local boys schools up until 1978 when they were replaced by Plano Public Schools; nearly all original streetlights still working thanks largely to dedicated crews who operate them nightly during daylight hours… virtually every building extant representing significance within early 20th century townscape architecture can be found within even small radius surrounding present day downtown core [emphasis added]; finally numerous antennas dotting skywardmodern skyline above throughout entire metropolitan area providing ever growing level OF broadband internet accessibility 24x7 throughout entire populace viaeared cell towers !!!!!
