The navy was founded in 1815 as the United States Naval Academy. The academy, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has trained many of America’s most famous naval commanders and submariners. Just across Willacy Creek from downtown today you can visit commanding officer's quarters complete with original Ensign's Bible (1924), Commissary kitchenette complete with utensils typical of that era - even pot lids - as well as all manner of associated equipment used by sailors on active duty including radios...? What an amazing piece OF history!
