In Denton, Texas, the military has a long and proud history. From its inception in World War I to present day, the armed forces have always been an important part of our community. The first military unit in Denton was the 5th Cavalry Regiment. The regiment was activated on October 15, 1914, and served as an infantry unit during World War I. The regiment was disbanded after the war. The next military unit to be stationed in Denton was the 36th Infantry Regiment of Texas Division which arrived in 1942. The 36th Infantry Regiment fought in World War II and saw extensive action throughout Europe. The regiment was disestablished after the war. After World War II, the United States Military Academy (USMA) began training cadets for service in the Vietnam War. In 1965, USMA Cadet Reserve Training Center opened at 7400 North Central Expressway near Cedar Springs Road to provide reservists with training for future deployments to Southeast Asia. In 1969, USMA graduate students started classes at USMA and soon afterward became active duty members of Army Aviation Units attached to other branches of Service In 1973-1974, USMA's School of Veterinary Medicine commenced operations on campus and soon afterwards received formal recognition from then-Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara as one of America's "great universities" providing veterinary education abroad In 1978-1979 UAMS joined with Texas A&M University (TAMU) forming a new university system known as Lone Star State Universities On September 17, 1984 UAMS announced that it would become a member institution of Rice University As time passed more colleges entered into affiliation with Rice University; these affiliations include Buffalo State College (1996), Middle Tennessee State University (1999), Tulsa Community Colleges (2002), Samford University (2005), Louisiana Tech Univ.-Lafayette Nouvelle Résidence de Saint John’s Wood Campus(2006), Mississippi Valleystate Univ.-Montgomery Campus(2007) and East Texas Baptist Univ.-Corpus Christi Center(2008). On July 1st 2009 UTSA became a member school within Lone Star State Universities when it merged with San Antonio Aztec Teachers College
Denton is a city in Texas, United States. The population was 107,624 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Denton County. It is located on the Texas A&M University campus. Denton was founded as an agricultural center in 1872 by James Pemberton and John Wesley Powell, two white men working for the Union Pacific Railroad. The area grew rapidly due to its location near Houston and natural resources such as oil and gas. Today, Denton is a diverse community with over 100 different racial and ethnic groups living together in downtown areas such as the Arts District and Energy Corridor. There are also many major employers in town including Dow Chemical Company (the largest employer outside of Silicon Valley), Raytheon Co., American Electric Power Company (AEP) – which has its headquarters here – KPNX Broadcasting Corporation - which operates all six stations within town - Boeing Co., UTI Health Care System - a leading health care provider - ExxonMobil Corp.-Texaco Refineries Ltd.-PepsiCo Inc.-Allstate Insurance Companies-and many others who contribute to this vibrancy quotient including Googleplex Campus headquartered some miles away from town but still connected through fiber optic cables providing ample access to data even during bad weather conditions while other large companies have chosen not to locate here because they believe it would compete with their company employees or buy up property they already own elsewhere in town

Denton, Texas is a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, located on the Trinity River. The population was 166,724 at the 2010 census. Denton is home to Baylor University and The University of Texas at Austin. The first white settlers in what is now Denton were Scottish entrepreneurs who named their holdings "New Fort Worth." In 1839, they founded a new town called Prospect Hill on land that had been part of Agriculture near present day downtown Denton. By 1840, the European settlement had dwindled to a single family when John Witherspoon purchased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of land east of present day I-30 for $1 million. He donated it to the Republic of Texas in hopes that it would become an agricultural center for Mexico and its growing slave population. The original town name may be related to Scotsman Prospector who landed there with his family in 1839 from Aberdeen, Scotland after traveling through North America and experiencing Mexican slavery then known as "the Great American Slave Trade."prospect Hill was settled by wealthy Scotsmen looking for new opportunities in what would soon become one of the most rapidly developing cities in U.S., if not anywhere else. In 1861 Denton became the county seat following a vote by citizens over objections from Arlington which sat atop an existing courthouse built by subscription among some prominent Texans including Sam Houston and others during the Republic's brief but successful effort to gain statehood before becoming Mexico's newly independent country under Santa Anna two years later. It wasn't until 1870 when Dallas incorporated as an official city within Denton County that prospects changed for both cities with access to quality education becoming central notions underlying developer policies throughout early 20th century growth here – yet again underscoring how regional identity shaped development outcomes hereabouts (in this case creating one signature advantageregarding property values). In just 10 years post incorporation—from 1901 until 1915—Denton grew from 1 square mile (.40 sq km) alligator farmsteads dotting rural Eagle Ford Valley into one of Americas most rapidly growing metropolises with over 50 square miles (120 sq km) comprising today’s energy-rich urban core encompassing high density residential areas adjacent ranching/agriculture production corridors stretching southward well beyond today’s limits northeastward across Interstate 30 into Collin County serving local government services while still providing easy access inland via river crossings linking modern day neighborhoods with pastoral settlements along Deer Park Reservoir upriver—-to say nothing about burgeoning suburban areas recently annexing much older tracts surrounding downtown—-demonstrating once again why “Texas Townships” emerged as key drivers behind twentieth century growth patterns hereabouts.—Italics indicate original townsite locations.—
