Gun manufacturers had been making firearms in the town for over a century before that, and there were guns for sale and ownership all around town. In the early 1900s, Denton was home to one of the largestGun shows on the East Coast. At this event, people from all over came to buy and sell firearms. In 1934, a group of businessmen formed the Texas Firearms Association (TFA) in order to promote responsible gun ownership in Texas. TFA organized annual meetings statewide to discuss issues surrounding gun control and Second Amendment rights. The organization also lobbied state legislatures for laws that would make it easier for citizens to purchase firearms. In 1984, TFA merged with another group called Americans United for Gun Rights (AUFR). AUFR was founded by two former NRA lobbyists – Tom Weisner and Paul Gronke – who believed that stricter gun control legislation was necessary in order to protect Texans’ Second Amendment rights. AUFR helped support Proposition 18, which passed in 1986 as a result of mass shootings at congressional baseball games across America. This measure banned assault weapons and high-capacity magazines within California’s borders; however, it did not apply to handguns owned by Californians living out of state. Since its inception, TFA has played an important role in arms control policy in Texas. In 1980, TFA submitted a report urging then-Governor Bill Richardson to issue executive orders prohibiting possession of assault rifles by felons or those addicted to drugs within 100 miles of any public school or hospital district; these orders were never acted upon due to media attention at the time. In 1990, TFA published an article entitled “A Brady Bill is Justified: Common Sense Measures Needed To Keep Our Nation Safe From Violent Crime” which urged Governor Ann Richards not sign Hickenlooper’s Assault Weapons Ban bill because it didn’t take into account public safety concerns related specifically to handguns! In 1994–1995, after legislators failed multiple times during their regular session attemptsto pass stronger gun regulations following Columbine High School Massacre – including introducing legislation requiring background checks on every firearm purchaser – TFA spearheaded an effort known as Operation Law Enforcement Shield which successfully persuaded then-Governor Perry not sign ENRON bailout legislation into law despite his promise not do so! On December 6, 1894 Edmond Malone donated land for what would become Baylor University which was founded by Baptist missionaries from London, England who were seeking to open an Americanized version of Oxford’s Royal College of Science because they believed that American colleges should give opportunities to students from underprivileged backgrounds. Baylor quickly outgrew its original site – on woodlands located northwest of town along Buffalo Bayou – and purchased more than 200 acres (81 hectares) around what is today Waco Hall Road and North Lamar Boulevard between 1901 and 1903 from J.W. Foard & Co., developers involved in the construction of Plano (later Arlington). The first building on campus was Waco Hall erected by Baylor trustees Gail Borden Dodge & her husband John Hogg Borden III in 1903; this structure served as the school’s administrative headquarters until 1928 when Waco Hall burned down following a storm that destroyed many homes within minutes afterthe fire started.
