Deer Park is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The name "Deer Park" was given to the community by J P Morgan in 1922 when he donated land for the construction of his newDallas–Fort Worth International Airport. The first settlers in what is now Deer Park were three brothers from Illinois who named themselves George Washington and John Adams and their families arrived on July 3, 1836. They founded a trading post near present-day Midlothian Creek. In 1838 they erected a log cabin known as Big Timber which still stands today on North Main Street. John Fenton bought Big Timber property in 1840 and built himself a farm there that became one of Medina County's largest landowners and cattle raisers until his death in 1916. His son W H Fenton continued the family’s ranching operations until his death in 1949. In 1845 two Texans, James Waugh (1811-1881) and Jesse Hite (1814-1892), came to Medina County to prospect for oil fields but found only creeks and hills void of oil available for drilling purposes because of lack of sandstone deposits locally. They decided instead to homestead on some high ground overlooking Clear Creek about one mile east of present day Deer Park, naming their settlement Fort Houston after General Houston’s command post during the Mexican War (1846). This site would be later renamed Fort Worth after General Sam Houston's victory over Mexico at San Jacinto Bridge on November 2, 1847). The first school in what is now Deer Park was taught by Mrs E B Herndon (1798-1864) from Springdale next door at Clear Creek Baptist Church from October 6, 1830 to February 14th, 1833; it moved several times before becoming located at First Baptist Church which stood today on East Elm Street between Maple Avenue and Anthony Drive prior to its current location near Interstate 10 just north of IH10 exit 191A off US 75 West . After Mrs Herndon's death her pupils attended Methodist services held at nearby Springdale Schoolhouse from February 14th through May 26th each week beginning September 15th 1830; this school remained open until December 9th 1870 when it burned down due to termites! Over time other schools were also established including: Clear Creek Female Seminary opened here on April 12th 1865 by lolita Maud Horton (1904-) widow Of Major Edwin Horton ; A & S Male High School opened here September 25th 1936 by Mr Edward Ladd (1905-) president/owner/builder Of Ladd Fordyce Chevrolet dealership ; First Baptist Church west side served as our church until we moved into our current building east side circa 1960 .
