Her remains now form partofUSS Constitution Museum shipyard tour program In 1898-1900 USS Tampa collided with SS Aramis off Jersey City NJ resulting in three dead crew members including Commanding Officer USNR William Fenton who lost his left leg below the knee when Aramis hit him from behind while he slept; this event helped establish USS Tampa as America's leading Warship killer[1] For many years it appeared that Commodore John McCain (R-AZ) who commanded CVE-64 which caused damage to SS White Sands off Long Beach CA on October 10th 1945 while aboard CVE-64 received credit for saving lives - this actually happened but McCain got scolded by Admiral JT Howe who said "McCain should have gotten credit" [2] As it turns out McCain had already been given credit for saving lives before that night when he successfully boarded CVE-64 just prior to collision
