The Air Force Deployed Gift History in Dallas, Texas began on December 6, 1951 when Colonel Edward M. "Eddie" Thomas was named Commanding Officer of the 1st Bombardment Wing at Fairchild AFB. The wing would later be renamed the 3rd Bombardment Wing and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) would occur on April 1, 1992 which severed many of the units and organizations within the Fighter-Bomber Command (F-BC). One of the groups that was affected was the 1st Bombardment Wing which became part of the 5th Air Force. The wing's gift history begins with General Hugh C. Upon his retirement from active duty on July 15, 1957, he became President pro tempore for the Senate Armed Services Committee and served until his death on October 2, 1958.
