The Corpus Christi Bay area has been a center of maritime commerce for centuries. A love of the sea began with early humans, who hunted and collected seafood in the region. The arrival of Spanish explorers in the 16th century brought new opportunities for trade as they explored the Texas coast. By 1845, Corpus Christi had become an important port on the Gulf of Mexico because of its access to oil resources. As fishing became more difficult and expensive to produce in the face of increasing competition from other ports, fishermen turned to shipping. This led to a shift in marine gift history in Corpus Christi when shipping companies started providing gifts to sailors as part of their package deals. These gifts included items such as wine, cigars, and books. The first vessel to call at CorpusChristi was the brigantine San Isidro de las Flores on November 12, 1807. This was followed by two more ships within weeks: la Trinidad on December 3rd and el Puerto de la Cruz on December 8th. By 1850, there were over 20 vessels calling at Corpus Christi every day! The boom times for maritime commerce were short-lived however; following World War II, shipping stopped entirely until it resumed during the 1970s when containerization made it easier for companies to ship goods worldwide without having to carry large amounts of cargo across oceans

It wasn’t until the late 1500s that foreigners began gifting items such as boats, anchors, fishing gear, or animals as presents to locals in various parts of the world. The process of exchanging goods between people aboard vessels continued through the 1800s before becoming more formalized in 1853 when Commodore James Cook received an anchor from King Louis XVIII of France as part of his visit to Australia. At that time, gifts were typically sent back and forth between ships using letters of marque (a type of letter used by captains to authorize other ships to trade with them). During World War II , naval personnel took on a whole new meaning when it came to marine gifts as they gave items like cigarettes, lubricants, food supplies, and uniforms for troops overseas. In fact, some members of the military even became known for gifting unique items like submariners’ dog tags or tropical fish tanks! Throughout the years there have been countless variations on marine giftgiving tradition but ultimately it has always been about making somebody else happy - whether that somebody is someone you know or someone you’re trying to make feel important within your own life.

The city has been known for its petroleum industry, shipbuilding, and steel production. Corpus Christi became an international center for engineering and technology after oil discoveries were made there in 1901 and 1907.
Corpus Christi was founded in 1867 as a small town on the Texas Gulf Coast. The city was named for the Catholic Church of Corpus Christi, which had been established in 1851 in nearby Galveston. The first commercial center in Corpus Christi was built on the wharf at the mouth of river Padre. By 1870, trade had increased enough to warrant a downtown area and by 1881, Corpus Christi had become an important port on the Gulf of Mexico. A cotton gin and foundry were both built around this time and produced goods such as bolts, nails, cigars, bricks and export flour until World War I when shipbuilding became more important in the city's economy. In 1920, CorpusChristi made national headlines when it became one of only two cities (the other being New Orleans) to receive an electric light system. Railroads reached Corpus Christi during this time and by 1930, it had become one of America's leading inland ports with a total container handling capacity of 2 million tons per year. After years of rapid growth throughout the 20th century, economic decline began to set in during the 1970s as oil prices began to rise and jobs shifted from manufacturing to service businesses outside of Corpus Christi
