Copperas Cove is a town located in Maverick County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office in Copperas Cove was established on December 12, 1892. The town site was named for copper mines near the mouth of the Copperas River. The town was incorporated on May 3, 1912. Copperas Cove's first store and post office were both built by George Huggins. In 1916, Copperas Cove became a stop on the Lone Star Line Railroad and remains so to this day as one of its stops along that line. In 1966-1967 Copperas Cove had an outdoor music festival which drew over 100 people from all around the area including San Antonio and Austin
