The Marine Corps deployed gift history to Copperas Cove, Texas in 1951, when the Commandant of Marines, General James K. Mattis ordered that all marine recruits be given a gift upon their induction into the Marine Corps. The tradition continues to this day and Marines receive a gift each time they are deployed. The original marines stationed at Copperas Cove were made up of World War II veterans who had returned home from combat. They were joined by new recruits in 1951 and the tradition continued until 1988, when Marine Barracks was closed and the Marines left for Okinawa. Gift history has been part of the Marine Corps since before they even existed! The earliest documented reference to Marines receiving gifts comes from Captain Harry Frazer in 1855 while he was commanding a detachment of marines stationed at Manila Bay. Frazer gave his recruits hoes, axes, knives and other household items as gifts. In 1949, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Aiken hosted an event called "A Gift for Our Men" which saw donations come in from all over America. At this event, Marines received rifles, shotguns and pistols from civilians as well as clothing and other supplies. It was during this one-time-only event that Corporal John Purdy became famous for bringing back a 2nd amendment rifle that had been lost in action near Iwo Jima!

Copperas Cove is a census-designated place located in Karnes County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Copperas Cove is derived from Spanish for "silver bay" because of its many silver mines and reefs near the mouth of the Kiska River. The first white settlers in what is now Copperas Cove were prospectors who found silver and other minerals while exploring for new land in 1853. The town started as a small settlement on the bank of the Kiska River east of present day Copperas Cove. In 1875, copper mines were discovered along with rich mineral resources that made Copperas Cove one of Americas' leading mining towns during the late 19th century. By 1916, copper had become one of Karnes County's top sources of revenue and development continued throughout World War I when copper production increased for munitions manufacturing purposes; however, during World War II copper production decreased as war effort shifted to other materials such as aluminum. After World War II ended, industry declined in Copperas Cove as did recreational activities such as fishing and swimming due to competition from more developed communities such as Round Rock and Austin. However, growth has resumed since 2000 with an increase in businesses which have brought more jobs to town including real estate development and manufacturing along with retail services like Farmers Market & Bakery offerings by local entrepreneurs Jeff & Kimberly Lunsford & their son Jacob Lunsford As per 2010 US Census estimates (the last full count), 1,812 people live within ZIP code 78701 which includes most of Copperas Cove proper including its main street called Wacoal Way which runs parallel to both sides of Kiska River until it empties into Bayou Kucoitchee approximately 2 miles downstream from present day Copperas Cove where it ends just before reaching Bayou Armada flowing into Gulf Coast Lake Buchanan about 12 miles southward from where it begins). According to 2020 Census estimates there may be another 495 residents living within ZIP code 78702 which includes much or all Of Cooperstown proper including its Main Street gridlocked between two rivers named Willow Creek on one side and Alamo Creek on the other side after they converge near current day I-35 Exit 121 North then continuing uphill until they reach Turnagain Springs Blvd., an interchange connecting I-35 South/Highway 183 West/US 281 East before turning northeast passing through Lost Hills (ZIP code 78710) then entering Valley View (ZIP code 78703) before terminating at Loop 610 East just outside University Station exit 611A serving Austin Downtown

Levinson currently resides outside Boston where he continues to support local community partnerships through his involvement with many organizations including United Way
