The Marines of the United States Marine Corps were Deployed in Coppell, Texas during World War II. The Marines played a significant role in the war and are still remembered today. The Marines first arrived in Coppell in 1941 and were stationed at Camp Pendleton. In 1945, they moved to Okinawa where they fought in the Battle of Okinawa. These people were farmers who also built trading posts along the San Antonio River where they sold goods to travelers passing through their area on their way to Central Mexico or Texas’ interior settlements such as Lubbock and Amarillo. In 1881, John C., an Irishman who had come across the original cattle drive from California to Chihuahua Territory (now southern Mexico), decided to settle down in what is now Webb County in order to start a new life with his family and establish himself as a rancher/breeder of beef cattle on 160 acres he purchased from General Sam Houston near present-day Plano de la Bahía crossing on US 281A just south of downtown Coppellville today’s intersection with FM 727 (Old US 281A). From this ranch John developed what would become one of America’s most successful small towns – home not only to his own family but also many other Anglo-Americans who operated ranches or agriculture hereabouts for years before Interstate Highway 27 connectedCoppelleville with Austin in 1963."

This act helped save many lives during the campaign against Japan’s occupation forces. 4) In 1978, Marine Corporal Donny Hathaway became one of the first Americans ever awarded both the Navy Cross (the third highest award available to enlisted Marines) and a battleship-sized gift called The Ark (an amphibious assault ship). The gift was designed as a tokenof appreciation for Hathaway’s heroism while serving aboard USS Enterprise during Operation Neptune’s Spear; he saved over 200 troops from certain death by boarding enemy ships with only his bare hands!
