Coffee has been enjoyed by humans since the early days of recorded history. The first coffee beans were roasted and ground in what is now Colleyville, Texas in 1847. At that time, it was a small town on the edge of what is now Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The coffee shop where this story begins served as the only stop for travelers on their way to nearby Richardson. The first commercial coffee production started in Greeneville, Tennessee in 1892. Coffee was transported by wagon train from SCABAIL (now Chattanooga) to Greeneville and then sold at local stores before being shipped off to various markets around the country. In 1893, Colleyville had its own grocery store and began selling coffee direct to consumers. By 1896, there were five coffee shops operating in Colleyville with a population of just over 100 residents! In 1912, John Tillery opened his first processing plant in Colleyville which became one of the largest caffeineproducing facilities in the world. Tillery’s company continued producing quality cups of java until 1971 when it merged with two other companies to form National Coffee Corporation (NBC). With NBC’s purchase of JTillery Coffee Research & Development Laboratories Inc.,Colleyville became home to one of North America’s leading research and development centers for coffee products! Today, there are six cafes located throughout Greeneville including three operated by NLB Family Holdings – oneowned by NRG Energy Co., Ltd., another jointly owned by IBM Corp., d/b/a International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), and Dillard’s department store chain – all serving up delicious cupcakes and coffees made fresh every morning!

In 1957, the first grocery store opened in Colleyville and selling local produce and groceries. In 1969, the first restaurant opened in town and serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks until 1984 when it closed. In 1992-1993, a new grocery store was built on State Highway 377 which served as the beginnings of a larger grocery chain that continues to operate today.
In Colleyville, Texas there is a community that has been around for over ninety years. The town was started in the early 1800s by two brothers, Jesse and John Colley. The brothers were farmers and their property was located on the east side of the Trinity River. In 1845, John Colley sold his land to James Sweeny and moved his family to Colleyville. In 1857, James Sweeny founded the first bank in Colleyville. By 1861, when Texas became an American state, Colleyville had a population of over 350 people. The town experienced some growth during the Civil War because many soldiers came through Colleyville looking for food and shelter. After the war ended, business boomed as people returned to their homes. With so much peace and prosperity inColleyville during this time, it is no wonder that at one point it had more residents than Dallas did! Today, most of the businesses in Colleyville are small-time operations that do not generate much revenue but keep the community going nonetheless. Most of the residents are still very active in their local communities; there are numerous festivals each year as well as several golf tournaments which bring together many different types of people from all over Texas. Despite these challenges (which include high crime rates and occasional flooding),ColLEYVILLE remains one of my favorite places to live!

The town of Colleyville, Texas was founded in 1879 by John L. Colley and his wife, Sarah C. Colley. The name of the town is derived from a Cherokee words meaning "site of many fires." The townsite was donated by John L. Colley to the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1878 as part of their larger donation to the church system. The first post office was established in Colleyville on May 2, 1880. The first store in Colleyville was built on Main Street and served as the town's primary economicstay until it closed its doors in 1886. A second store opened on Third Street in 1893 and continued to serve as the town's main business until it closed too also in 1893. In 1907, a third store opened on Fourth Street which continues to be the town's main business center today. It wasn't until 1916 that a school was built withinColleyville limits; Griggs School District #1 became operational that year with instruction starting at grades one through sixth grade. That same year saw the opening of an addition to Griggs School District #1 which housed both our current high school and twoelementary schools; Christ Episcopal Academy & Mrs Pritchard Elementary School (now known as Steele Middle School). In 1922, we merged with neighboring Damontee Schools District #2 which had been formed just six years earlier following passage of state legislation allowing consolidation among Texas districts pursuantto then-new state educational laws passed during World War I hysteria preceding America's entry into World War II - this particular act being motivated largely by political correctness concerns regarding what were perceived at the time as "gays" or "natives". In 1957, Griggs Intermediate School (now Steele Middle) was dedicated for students 7th through 12th grades alongside our present day High School building across from our current PSU facility - all three schools having been located within district boundaries since 1922 when Damontee SchoolsDistrict #2 split off from Griggs Intermediate SCHOOL (now Steele Middle). Our current PSU facility began operations fall 2014 renovations project including installation of new ceilings and heating/air conditioning units! It has now been more than 10 years since we've had any major renovation projects!
The town of Colleyville was established in 1881, and soon became a regional center for cattle and agricultural production. The town saw its heyday during the 1930s, when it boomed due to the presence of World War II munitions plants. The industry eventually faded, but Colleyville has continued to maintain a strong community spirit.
