Colleyville is a small town located in Burnet County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Colleyville was founded in 1879 by Scots-Irish immigrants and has been a center for agricultural production and ranching since its inception. The town was named after General James Wilkinson Colley, who fought against Mexican forces in the Alamo War (1836-1839). The first settlers to Colleyville were families from Northern Ireland who arrived in 1879. They grew corn, wheat and other crops until the early 1900s when Standard Oil Company opened a refinery here that made it possible for Colleyville to become known as "the oil capital of the world". In 1907, Colonel Charles Hogg donated land to build a school and Baptist church; both structures still stand today. In 1916, Colleyville became an incorporated village with a population of 582 residents. The following year saw the opening of what is now known as Joe's Discount Store which served as the nucleus of today's industry and economy within the community. Many businesses have since closed or been relocated within Colleyville but their legacy continues on through nostalgia among locals and visitors alike. In 1976, then-Governor George W Bush signed legislation creating Burnet County; including Colleyville within its boundaries. As part of this proclamation, local businesses had 10 years to create new jobs or face closure.
