Gun gift history in Colleyville, Texas began with the purchase of a revolver by William H. Colley on December 12, 1859. The revolver was given to his wife Sarah for Christmas that year. It is generally accepted that the first firearms in Colleyville were handguns. On January 6, 1860, Andrew J. Smith bought two shotguns from John Bowers at auction and gave one to his friend and fellow rancher George Waddell. On February 11, 1860, James Pendergast made an unassuming purchase of a rifle from Rufus Silloway at auction. After purchasing the rifle he decided to give it away as a gift to some friends he knew in Colleyville. The first shooting incident in what would become known as “The Gunfight at White Sands” took place on March 30th when Tom Donahue shot and killed Jesse Harry Herron while Harry was attempting to sell him a horse at the local market place. This event led to an increase in gun sales throughoutthe town due to Feargus O’Neill’s efforts to stop any further shootings incidents between cowboys and farmers

In 1885, John Wrehich donated land to Colleyville that became known as Black Friday Park™️ . On September 5th, 1886, Mayor James Hogg announced that Colleyville would be become an incorporated town with a population of 25 citizens. In 1903, Andrew J. Cook became Mayor and served for six terms until he died in office in 1932. Under Cook’s leadership, the City built a new courthouse and Melvin Ladd Library which are still in use today©️ . In 1945, Mayor Harry Barnes appointed Clyde Davenport asColleyville’s first Postmaster after receiving recommendations from Mr. Cook ©️ . DuringMayor Barnes’ tenure (1946-1948), many important milestones were made such as the opening of Joe Bowman Stadium™️ , construction of Main Street Extension™️ , development of what is now University Avenue©️ , installationof LED lights throughout the city ©️

In 1916, Colleyville became an independent municipality and in 1925 it amalgamated with neighboring Denton to form the current city of Denton.
