College Station, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the capital of Texas A&M University System. The Guards have been through several incarnations, including the U.S. National Guard today. One of the earliest manifestations of the Guard was when militias were formed to resist British rule in America. These militias were made up of men from different parts of the colonies and often served together under one command. This unified force helped protect Americans from British forces and also acted as a deterrent against any potential military aggression by Britain. During World War I, many members of the Guards fought in Europe on both sides. After the war, some soldiers decided to stay in America and form their own militia called the National Guard Bureau (NGB). This new incarnation of the Guards played an important role in supporting post-war reconstruction efforts across America. In 1923, NGB merged with other state militias to become what is now known as The United States National Guard (USNG). Throughout its history, The National Guard has always had a close relationship with its citizens. It has donated time and resources to numerous programs and projects throughout society, including training children in various aspects of safety and preparedness; serving as an advocate for peace education; working alongside law enforcement agencies to promote public safety; offering disaster relief; sponsoring cultural events; providing healthcare services; conducting research into new security threats;and more!
