(1997-) The Independent Coffee Merchants Association of Texas (ICMA) was founded in 1967 as the first statewide organization devoted to promoting artisan coffee within Texas. The ICA represents more than 100 independent coffee retailers throughout the state. The goal of the ICA is to protect and promote the quality, taste, and sustainability of artisan coffees by working together to increase awareness among consumers about these products and support cooperative efforts between growers, processors, distributors, retailers, and customers. During its time as an affiliation with ICMA, Belle Café Roastery/Brewing Businesses Inc., which operated out of a converted car dealership on FM 1071 in College Station from 1997 until 2006 when it closed due to financial difficulties. In 2006 Belle Café reopened under new ownership as The Bean & Barrel Coffee Company with intent to focus on roasted beans only rather than marketing them as artisanal coffees through their physical store setting. At this point Belle's legacy lives on not just as an owner or operator of The Bean & Barrel but also through their impact on coffee culture across Texas through their work with educational institutions including UT Austin's Department of Food Science& Technology and UT Dallas' Department of History

The art of roasting and brewing coffee has been around since before anyone could remember, and today’s artisanal coffees are some of the most delicious, complex drinks you can find. Some of the earliest examples of artisanal coffee can be found in Italy, where small-scale farmers would roast their own beans and sell them directly to customers. In Germany, this process was transformed into a cottage industry by women who worked as brewers and roasters. In France, it was mainly men who took on this task, but with time some women also became involved. In Belgium, these same women turned their home kitchens into cafes that served up strong cup after strong cup of hot espresso. In America, it wasn’t until about 1870 that an individual began producing his or her own coffee beans for sale to consumers. By then, large commercial farms had become prevalent; however, smaller producers continued to produce high-quality artisanal coffee until well into the 20th century. This period saw a shift towards whole bean roasted beans instead of processed versions; as a result, many classic French blends are now made with organic Valley Blend or Ethiopian Yirgacheffe beans rather than traditional Arabica varieties. As more people moved away from rural life towards city lives and began consuming more processed foods items such as food additives and artificial flavors , artisanal coffee began to decline in popularity among consumers across North America. College Station is a city in Texas, United States. The population was 33,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of San Patricio County. The city is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first Europeans to come to College Station were traders and missionaries who founded the Mission San Francisco de Asís in 1769. In 1836, College Station was designated as the permanent capital of Texas due to its importance as the site of both the State Capitol Building and Judge John Eason's historic courthouse. In 1861, during Texas's secession from the United States, Confederate General Braxton Bragg made his headquarters in College Station before retreating towards Houston. On November 3, 1861, Union Major General James Longstreet arrived at College Station with orders to march on Houston and destroy all evidence that Confederates had been present in or around this town. There was heavy fighting throughout November and December of that year between Union forces and Confederate forces; however, no major loss occurred within Collegesport limits until February 1862 when Confederate Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Kirby Smith's brigade killed five men inside Old Courthouse (now University Tower) after unsuccessfully attempting to storm it during an guerrilla campaign against Union forces nearby. Aftermath of this battle led Texans to dub Kirby Smith "Old Battle-Horse" because he was so conspicuous in leading such an abortive attack on what would become one of their most well known battles for independence from America ever fought outside Washington D.C., just weeks before statehood under those same terms happened successfully (March 6). A second important event which took place in early 1836 when Jester Milling Company located near present day Lamar Boulevard processed payments for goods imported into Texan ports through New OrleansConnection had only recently been completed between Galveston & Brownsville by boat.* This connection allowed goods being shipped upriver then downriver fifty miles ashore at Corpus Christi & Galveston for shipment back home much needed food supplies during a time when mail couldn't get through due to enemy blockade* A stagecoach service stopped running at Brazoria Ferry on December 11th 1836 due owner Accumulated Debts refusing To sell passage across creek* Act No 40 passed by House January 1st 1837 provided For The construction Of A Bridge over Red River At&t 70 Miles From mouth Of Red River
On July 1, 1836, Texas became a part of the United States of America. In 1845, the Mexican–American War started and ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The area now known as Texas was acquired by the United States from Mexico in this war. The first college in Texas was founded on August 29, 1859 in Galveston by Dr. James Mooney and Dr. John Murray. The school was called the Houston Female College and opened to students on October 17, 1860. Texas A&M University was founded on November 4, 1899 by President George Washington Carver as a land-grant university with a mission to "promote American education throughout Texas." It operated as an independent institution until it became part of Rice University in 1916.
