Clute is a town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,876 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Clute community began as a small farming settlement on an agricultural prairie north of present-day Clute. The settlers were led by John A. McClain and J.M. Brown, two men from nearby Farmers Branch who had come to the area in 1881 to assess its potential for growth. They recommended that the name be changed to "Clute" after their home town in Scotland which they both visited while living there in 1882. In 1907, Harry Crouse established a beef processing plant in what is now Clute and named it Crouse Packet Beefsteak Processing Company Ltd.. In 1912, he merged his company with anotherpacket beef producer named Fenton Bros., becoming Clutte Packers and Merchants Incorporated (later known as IHOP). In 1916, Evelyn Pogue became president of IHOP and moved her family from Arlington Heights to Clutte to become its first female CEO. She later served as chairwoman from 1984 until her death in 2003; during her tenure IHOP grew into one of North America's largest restaurant chains with more than 2,000 restaurants worldwide under management

Clute is a town in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,543 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area and the larger Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington MSA. Clute was founded in 1879 by citizens of nearby Fort Worth as a station on the Union Pacific Railroad. The town's name comes from David Clute, one of several men who donated land for the town's construction. The first store opened in 1880 and soon began to grow into a popular shopping center with its own post office and railroad depot. In 1889, Clute became an incorporated municipality with a full municipal government and two school districts - one serving primary students untilgrades 6 through 8 while the other served grades 9 through 12 until it merged with Arlington in 2002. In 1906, Clute welcomed its first female physician - Drs.) Alice Hargrave and Margaret Swenson - who were both medical pioneers in their field at that time. By 1910, there were more than 20 businesses in operation including three banks and five grocery stores; all except one closed within 15 years due to economic hard times or consolidation of local industry into larger entities such as Alcoa and Texaco.
