Cleburne is a city in northern Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,796 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The community of Cleburne was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1872 as a small farming village called Clearwater on the banks of the Trinity River. The name was changed to Cleburne in 1907 after General Alfred I. Grant's army burned down Clearwater and much of the surrounding agricultural land during its campaign against Native Americans near present-day Cleburne. According to local legend, Grant's troops were so angry at what they saw as another example of Indian treachery that they set fire to the village and all but destroyed it. In 1927, when Collin County was organized into two districts, Cleburne became an unincorporated community within district 2sfn1 (the eastern side ofCollin County). In 1940, when district 1 (the central side) was disbanded and reorganized into eight counties, Cleburne became an unincorporated community within district 8sfn2 (the western side ofCollin County). In 1959, when new county boundaries were created following statehood changes per Texas law, Clearwater became part of district 9sfn3 (the eastern side of Collin County), while Cleburne itself remained part of district 8sfn2. The National Guard was organized on September 25, 1861, when the Confederate States of America seceded from the Union and formed their own government under the name of the Confederate States of America. The first unit to be called into service was Company C, 2nd New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Nationwide, there are over 6 million active duty members in the National Guard, as well as 1.5 million reservists who have been called up for drill or emergency service since 2007. In 2013-14 alone, there were more than 2,000 deployments by member units to Iraq and Afghanistan – making them one of America’s most versatile military forces. One way that the National Guard has helped keep our country safe is through its role in homeland security. Since 9/11/2001, member units have responded to over 560 events ranging from natural disasters to violent demonstrations across 102 U.S., Canadian and Mexican cities. Units also participated in 138 international operations (including both counter-terrorism and peacekeeping efforts) since 2002 – including exercises with Spain’s Air Force and Thailand’s Army Corps of Engineers; support for Operation Neptune Spear during Hurricane Sandy; response to Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines; hurricane relief efforts following Irma; and numerous other domestic emergencies such as wildfires or floods. In addition to its role in homeland security, the National Guard has also played an important role in American society through its community outreach program known as “Hands AcrossAmerica” which reaches out to communities across America with opportunities for volunteerism and disaster relief work. Additionally, members participate in many patriotic programs such as “Celebrate America Day” where they parade down Pennsylvania Avenue wearing blue jeans and Stars And Stripes uniforms while singing American songs at various government buildings around Washington D.C.; joint ceremonies with Canada Hosting a Veterans Day Parade at Queen Elizabeth II's Windsor Castle; hosting its own nationally televised event honoring fallen heroes during Super Bowl 50 (the biggest show on television); providing support for local First responders during major tragedies like Maria (in Puerto Rico); participating in state fair celebrations throughout Iowa; hosting adoptions days throughout summertime; performing open-air concerts at military bases nationwide; playing host to world championshipshows like Formula One racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway or ice hockey games at Amherst College Ice Arena; serving refugees resettlement initiatives such as Noor Adham Refugee Center providing food assistance along with cultural activities like traditional music shows or dance lessons.;and more…..
