The National Guard of the United States was organized on September 15, 1947. The first Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard Bureau was General James M. Gavin who served from October 1, 1947 to May 4, 1949. The current Commander in Chief is Lieutenant General Jeffrey H. Buchanan who assumed his duties on July 12, 2017. The history of the National Guard in Cibolo began with its organization as a state militia under the Texas Constitution on September 15, 1947. The following year, on October 1st, George Biddle became the first commander-in-chief of the National Guard Bureau and ordered all units across Texas to come into compliance with this new law. On November 7th, 1948 more than 7000 militiamen from throughout Texas assembled at Camp Bowie near Austin for their first meeting as a unit under one command. In 1836, as the Mexican-American War raged on, Texas Rangers led by Colonel James K. Polk discovered a possible gold mine in the Cibolo Creek area of present day Cibolo, Texas. The claim was made and surveyed by Captain John Sutter in 1839, who named the creek after General Santa Anna. The discovery aroused great interest in the area and soon many prospectors began to arrive from all over Mexico looking for a piece of this new gold find. With no one quite sure what it was they were looking for, little did anyone know that within less than two years much of what would become known as Cibolo would be destroyed by a series of natural disasters. On October 7th 1861, an intense blizzard swept across the region bringing with it catastrophic flooding that destroyed most of the townships in between San Antonio and Hearst Springs. This event is generally considered to be one of the largest natural disasters ever to hit central Texas. This devastating event not only ruined many lives but also caused immense damage to both infrastructure and property. In 1865, following Reconstruction times had changed so much that President Abraham Lincoln issued an Executive Order called “Cibolo appropriation” which appropriated $1 million for reconstruction efforts in central Texas including Cibolo Creek Rancho de las Pulgas (the present day town of Midland). This order signaled a change in attitude towards Central Texans; prior to this time they had been viewed primarily as carpetbaggers seeking favor with their southern masters. As a result of this donation from President Lincoln, many new people started arriving in Cibolo during these hard times such as Andrew Carnegie who built his famous steel mill there about 1900 AD (today’s Midland Regional Medical Center). Today there are several small businesses located near downtown Midland which continue to thrive despite some challenges faced by recent residents such as gentrification and increased traffic congestion along I-10 westward into Mexico City!
In the United States, the National Guard is a term used to describe a number of different military organizations which are typically responsible for providing support to local law enforcement. The National Guard has been in existence since 1776 and has played an important role in American history. In some cases, the National Guard has served as an effective check on government power and have helped protect individual rights. Additionally, the Guards have also been used during times of peace or insurrection and can be called upon to provide manpower or resources if needed. The first national guard units were raised in 1776 as part of the Continental Army. Initially, these units were limited to men who had volunteered their services and were not required to serve in any specific way. Over time, however, it was realized that there was no real way for these soldiers to be spread evenly throughout the colonies and so a plan was hatched whereby all male citizens between 18 years old and 50 years old could sign up with the intention of joining either infantry or artillery units (later renamed cavalry). It should be noted that this offer did not apply to women at this point; they would only join militia units later on. Once signed up, members of thenational guard received training and Gear from local militias (usually known as “the stocks”). These stocks consisted of uniforms, equipment, ammo, etc., which could be borrowed or given away for use by other militias when necessary. This type of relationship was often beneficial as it allowed both sides to share personnel fairly without any major issues arising. The first actual battles fought by national guardsmen took place in 1778 during King George's War when Patriot forces attacked British forces near present-day Princeton NJ (now part of Westchester County). Despite being outnumbered ten-to-one by British troops, patriot militiamen managed to repel the attack while suffering few casualties themselves. This victory demonstrated how successful national guard operations could become if given enough support from its civilian partners. The next battle occurred less than two months later when Patriots assaulted Fort Mercer along New Jersey's coastlineside at what is now Atlantic City NJ . despite numerical superiority over their foe nationally(3:1), patriot militiamen managed defeat British defenders under heavy enemy fire with minimal losses due mainly to natural disasters such as thunderstorms that impacted areas adjacent thereto including Newark NJ . In short order Patriot leadership decided against attacking again due largelyTo logistical difficulties involved in transporting large amountsof munitionsandinfantry through hostile territory
