Cibolo is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the banks of the Colorado River. As of 2010, its population was 1,848 and it is the county seat for San Antonio County. The name "Cibolo" means "aircrack" or "crevice." The first permanent settler in what is now Cibolo was Sam Houston, who arrived in 1836. He named his new hometown after General José de la Peña y Costilla's victory at baton pass over the Chisholm Trail near present day Austin. In 1839, John Wesley Powell passed through Cibolo on his way to explore the Rocky Mountains and named it for General Tomás Cisneros who had led Mexican forces against American independence seekers at Buena Vista Creek in 1846-47. A post office called Cedar Hill was established in 1841, but no evidence suggests that it ever served residents of Ciblo. In 1870, Waco businessmen Edwin Fenton and James Hogg bought 2,000 acres (0.8 km²) east of Cedar Hill from Juana Castro for $1 per acre (0.4 km²). They built a summer home there which became known as Villa Rica and remains standing today as one of downtown Waco's most iconic landmarks. The two men also founded Waco National Bank which still stands today and has been used as a meeting place by leaders including Woodrow Wilson and Lyndon Johnson during their presidential campaigns dating back to 1914-1945; both were natives of Wichita Falls northwest of Dallas . In 1902–1903 a school building project by architect Elisha Holmes began with an elementary school serving grades K-6 then evolved into high school classes up to 12th grade before finally being completed as Baylor University Preparatory School where students currently attend beginning with 7th grade until they graduate college-level courses leading to professional degrees such as law enforcement officers or medical assistants
