The town was founded in 1867 by Danish immigrants and has been known for its roasted beans and unique coffee products ever since. The first coffee shop in Cedar Hill opened its doors in 1907. It operated out of a small grocery store on High Street. The shop was known for its fresh, quality coffee and cinnamon rolls. In 1925, the first café opening in Cedar Hill served breakfast from 7am to 8am. It was called the Dutchman Café and served Dutch-style breakfasts with eggs, bacon, ham, toast, omelets, pancakes, waffles and more. In 1957, The Dutchman Café closed down due to financial difficulties. However, it reopened as an artisanal coffee house under the name of Frontier Coffee House two years later. Frontier Coffee House remained open until 1987 when it became redundant due to changes in local industry. In 2001, Heritage Coffee Shop opened up shop within Frontier Coffeehouse which continues to serve as a source of both high-quality artisanal coffee and unique gifts for customers today. Today’s Heritage Coffee Shop is run by longtime friend/coffee lover Donny Britton who purchased it from his father-in-law back in 2003 after he retired from his job as a copy editor at Knight Ridder Newspapers paper company. Heritage Coffee Shop specializes exclusively in fresh ground coffees made with 100% Arabica beans sourced from around the world! They roast their own beans inside their 1 million square foot roasting plant located just outside of Cedar Hill TX!
