Carrollton is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Hidalgo County. The history of Carrollton begins with two settlers, brothers John and James Carroll who arrived in 1836 from Maryland. They farmed land until 1840 and erected a log cabin on what is now east side of Third Street. In 1845 they married Maria Connell and started a grocery store on Main Street which became known as the "Olde Line Store." In 1865, James Waddell founded J&J Dairy which grew into one of the largest dairy companies in Texas. A sawmill was established soon after by Waddell and his brother-in-law Jacob Goodrich in 1870 and later by their father John Waddell Sr.. In 1886, David Cook bought J&J Dairy from James Waddell for $10,000 cash. Cook renamed it The Cook Dairy Company which continued to produce cheese until 1984 when it merged with New York State Agricultural Society's Glenview Cheese Factory to form Veuve Clicquot/Cook Cheese Incorporated (now Belvidere cheese). This event marks the beginning of the end for small family-owned businesses in Texas during the early 20th century when large corporations took over most industries statewide. Today some remnants of these pioneer businesses still remain including J&J Dairy &Grocery which operates out of an old creamery building on Second Street near Interstate 10; The Cooks' Brewery on First Street opposite IH 10; and David Cook's Nursery & Factories located off Loop 1604 south of town center where he operated both a grocery store and flower shop until his death in 1984. Carrollton also contains trace evidence that humans were living here at least 6000 years ago according to excavations undertaken by members of Rice University's Department of Anthropology between 1960–1965 at sites around town along Fourth Street NW (the location now occupied by Midtown Heights Shopping Center) and Seventh Avenue SWP (now part of Uptown Cotton Mall). Additionally there are several ancient cedar trees found throughout town dating back to about 7500 BC or even earlier according to local oral legend passed down through generations . These trees would've been well-suited for agricultural use due to their ability to hold waterlogged soil without rotting like other trees such as oak or hickory did , making them ideal candidates for construction as damsides or ditches supporting irrigation systems . While much remains unknown about these prehistoric inhabitants thereof we do know that they left behind numerous artifacts including musical instruments thought possibly used for religious ceremonies ; pottery tools used for processing corn , beans, squash etc.; projectile points made from bone or ivorySharp Points carved into animals have also been discovered occasionally associated with dwellings along southwest border Road NW near White Sands Lake

Carrollton is a small town in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and has been around since 1853. The first settler, John H. Carroll, arrived in 1853 and named his new land "Carrollton." It was not until 1888 that the name was changed to "Carrollton" after General James Fenton Carroll, who had served as commander of Texas Rangers during the Mexican-American War. The town's growth began with its location on the banks of Lufkin Creek, which made it an ideal spot for cotton plantations. By 1900, the population of Carrollton had reached 2,500 people and it became known as one of the most important cotton towns in Texas. In addition to its importance as a center of cotton production, Carrollton also became home to several businesses such as a bank and a dry goods store. During World War II, CarrollTON served as an important training ground for American soldiers. Many local residents were employed by Allied Forces in various capacities including cooks, mechanics and many more. The post-war years saw some major changes for CarrollTON however; starting with the arrival of Interstate 20 in 1965, truck traffic began to increase significantly making life difficult for local restaurants and merchants. In order to cope with this new development, locals decided to move their businesses away from downtown into newer buildings or venture into online sales only during certain hours). Despite these challenges, over time CarrollTON has slowly regained its former glory although there are still some occasional issues that need to be addressed such as lack of public transportation or high school enrollment rates
Carrollton was founded in 1847 by the Prescotts as a trading post on the Red River. It grew rapidly, becoming a city in 1865. The city was named for General Andrew Carroll, who helped lead Texas during the Mexican-American War.
