Burleson and his wife, Jane Cochran Burleson. It was named after General Sam Houston, who had served as its first mayor. John C Burleson was born December 30th, 1847 in Decatur County, Illinois to Elijah Cook Burleson and Sarah Ann Neely Cook. He left home at age thirteen to go west following his father's lead in 1851 when he became an incorporator with the Dallas & Rio Grande Railroad Company - a move that made him rich beyond anything his family could have dreamt possible. When John Coburnsr died suddenly on July 15th 1862 leaving his widow Sarah Ann alone with five children aged 7 through 11 years old they moved back east to Decatur County where they arrived October 1st 1865 only to find their home destroyed by arson four days later while they slept! Burleson is a town in the U.S. state of Texas, located about 25 miles (40 kilometers) northeast of Austin and about 35 miles (55 kilometers) northeast of Dallas. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Hays County. The first settler in what would become Burleson was James A. Byrnes in 1876, while he and his wife were on their way to make a living as cowboys on the San Angelo Rancho Grande del Rio land grant that Captain John Brough had given them as part of a land purchase from Mexicans. In 1881, J.A., his wife Mary and their nine children emigrated to Burleson after James A.'s death in an accident on the rancho which left him with three small children to care for alone. They arrived during what was known as "the Klondike Fever" pandemic which took hold in America during that year and killed many people including many farmers who sold their land to prospectors for gold discoveries near Lake Tahoe Nevada. In 1902, Burleson's post office opened under date of November 15th with Fenton Waddell serving as its first postmaster until 1915 when he became deputy registrar general for Hays County from 1914-1915 when he moved up to succeed Postmaster General Jno Parkman who had served two terms since 1912 In 1926, Burleson incorporated as a city under date of January 1st following passage by voters of an ordinance creating municipal government with police forces, fire services and other social services within limits established by City Ordinance No.. 7963 passed by City Council on December 12th 1925 . The original city boundaries included most present day Hays County excepting portions now within Mansfield Township eastward to FM 522 where it meets US 281 southward; all present day unincorporated areas westward to IH 10 bridge across Chickamauga Creek adjacent thereto; all present day parts of Garland County eastward into Mansfield Township westward along FM 522 where it meets US 281 southward; finally all present day parts of Williamson County northwest into Mansfield Township westward along IH 10 bridge across Chickamauga Creek adjacent thereto . On October 6th 1930 voters erected a 3 story redbrick building at corner of Elmira Avenue & Webb Street bearing name “City Hall” still standing today being used today both for civic functions such as Town Meeting meetings and also housing units used by the Board Of Chancellors For The City Of Burleson
