Burleson, Texas is a town located in the Midland region of Texas. It was founded in 1876 by John F. Burleson and named after his father, James H. Burleson. The town became an agricultural center with coffee being the most important crop. Coffee beans were grown in fields and then roasted and sold to retail customers. In 1960, coffee production was discontinued due to a lack of demand from the coffee industry but the beans continued to be used for brewing coffee until 1984 when they were replaced by instant coffee products manufactured by Keurig Incorporated. Today, Burleson still contains a small amount of coffee bean production though it no longer produces any pure-bred beans. The town has experienced several waves of growth since its founding including one during the late 1800's which saw heavy investment from railroad companies that helped create new jobs and led to development in the area around town. Burleson, Texas is an unincorporated community located in Hidalgo County, Texas. It lies along the Gulf of Mexico on the Brazos River. The population was 1,893 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Burleson were Mexican immigrants who came there to work on the sugar plantations of Fannin and Galveston counties. In 1854, a group of Anglo Americans from Houston founded a trading post here called "Old Fort Bayou." The post changed its name to "Burleson" after General James K. Polk's decision in that year to make Texas a secular state. As Burleson grew, so did its commercial and industrial activities. A cotton gin was built here in 1881 and became one of Texaco's most important operations; other businesses included a flour mill (1889), a saddlery shop (1915), and an insurance agency (1917). The town also attracted several families who ranched Hereford cattle until they were replaced by more systematic farming methods around World War II. A new shopping center was developed in 1978 adjacent to Interstate 10 between I-10 east and FM 965 west; it replaced an earlier shopping mall which had been built along Highway 281 north of town during the 1970s as part of plans for downtown redevelopment across Hidalgo County. 2 large Walmart stores opened here in 2007: one near FM 1960 exit 154 on I-10 about 2 miles south of town and another just outside the old city limits near FM 965 about 20 miles northwest of town on U.S.-Mexican Border Road about 12 miles northeast from I-10 or 17 miles southwest from Corpus Christi airport

The community was established on a small ranch east of downtownDallas. In 1840, the town was moved to its current location on FM 1960 about two miles west of downtownDallas. In 1890, burleson became the site of what would become one of America's most famous "race track" meetings, which attracted many important people from all over the country to discuss race issues at this time. In 1907, burleson incorporated as a city and soon became known for its luxury hotels and other commercial interests around its growing downtown district. By 1920 it had lost much of its cultural significance due to suburban growth but has regained some portions since then by becoming an Anson Mills shopping center located adjacent to IHOP restaurants and other retail outlets near Highway 6 (the former route of Interstate 10). After years of decline following World War II, burleson experienced a resurgence during the early 1990s with new businesses such as Barnes & Noble opening up in its core business district while also hosting art galleries and events throughout the year including concerts by popular local bands such as White Stripes and Linkin Park
