Burleson is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 97,826 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Midland County after Odessa and Midland. The Burleson/Midland Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 291,815 as of 2012.
The first permanent settler in what is now Burleson was Nicholas Denton with his family on November 3, 1836. A post office called Denton was established in 1839 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. David Hockaday built a cabin on what is now Main Street around 1840 and named it Hockaday's Bluff. Oliver Prentiss homesteaded land near present day Loveland Boulevard and Main Street on November 17, 1845. George Wylie purchased 6 acres (2 ha) of land from Prentiss for $3 per acre ($40 per ha). Wylie named the townsite "Burleson" after his father-in-law, James Burchardt Burlingame who had donated 4 acres (1 ha) to the town site along Loveland Boulevard when Burlingame bought out Prentiss' interest in the town site from him. At its founding, Burleson had a total population of six residents: Wylie, Prentiss, Burchardt Burlingame, John Fenton (a resident of Midland), Samuel Glasper (a resident of San Angelo), and Alexander Gillespie (another newcomer). By 1850 there were twenty four residents living in Burrleons Creek Township: Wylie(20), Prentiss(18), BurchardtBurlingame(16), Glasper(12), Gillespie(10), Fenton(8). In 1854 burleytons creek township incorporated under state law created Olney Township which included much of what is today Burrleons Creek Township except for that part east of Loveland Boulevard which became part of Odessa.
The first school building was erected on Main Street by Jno Hockaday around 1840; this building still stands today as part of the City Hall Complex located within downtown boundaries of burleys creek township.

Burleson is a city in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,724 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wise County and home to the Burleson Municipal Airport. The first town in Wise County was Fort Worth, but it only lasted for a few months before being dismantled due to lack of trade and transportation options. In 1881, James A. Bowie built a new fortification on the Rio Grande near present-day Burleson and named it after himself. The new fortifications served as an important supply depot for Mexico during the American Civil War. In 1907, John Witherspoon established Witherspoon Oil Company in Burleson with his brother-in-law Sam Houston as president and notable oilman Tom Ladd as secretary treasurer. The company drilled several wellholes in nearby Winkler County before finally striking oil in 1911 from a well site northeast of Burleson. The City of Burleson was founded on November 10, 1912 when Judge Edward Pogue laid out land for the town on White Sands Road east of what is now Loop 610 South (then US 281). At that time there were no roads or telephone service within the city limits so citizens gathered around their courthouse square to watch rigs drill into the earth while they sang "Wichita Lineman" by Benny Goodman
Burleson was founded in 1851 by James W. Burleson and his brother, John W. Burleson. The town grew rapidly due to the cotton fields that were developed there. In 1879, the Texas Central Railroad was built through the town and it became an important transportation hub. The town experienced a boom period during World War II as many military personnel moved to Burleson because of its excellent geographic location.
