Brownwood is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Brownwood metropolitan area. Brownwood is located on U.S. Highway 281 and its namesake road, Brownwood Boulevard, which runs through the center of town. The first permanent settler in what would become Brownwood was John Ferguson in 1853. By 1865, there were twelve people living in the community when it was platted as a village by commissioners from McLennan County under the name "Ferguson Village." The site chosen for the new village included land that had been donated by General James Fenton to build a military fortification known as Fort Worth Post (later Fort Worth State University). In 1866, after months of negotiation with other landowners in McLennan County who wanted their parcels too, Fergusonvillage was approved and laid out into blocks - one block wide and six blocks long - with one story high. In 1870-71, members of the First Baptist Church organized an agricultural society to help improve local agriculture and provide essential goods like flour and cheese to their congregation's members throughout Williamson County. This early efforts at economic development helped make Brownwood a prosperous community during its early years; within 10 years of its founding, furniture stores had opened up along main streets while brickyards flourished around courthouse square – making Old Main Hotel one of Browns most popular tourist destinations during those days In 1876-77 two important events took place in Browns history: first came membership into The Baptist Convention (now Jehovah's Witnesses) via merger with another congregation nearby; second saw construction begin on Second Theatre Avenue – now home to numerous businesses including three banks - becoming Browns only theater until 1935 when movie theaters went mainstream It wasn't until 1920 when Yvonne Ruffin became Mayor that things got really started for Browns citizens; she made significant changes including setting up government services such as irrigation facilities which continues today as River Oaks Aquarium & Resort

Brownwood is a town in North Texas, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1879 by John Brown and his family after they abandoned their previous location, which had been destroyed by a fire. Brownwood grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the border of two counties – Pottawatomie County to the east and San Saba County to the west – and its close proximity to railroad lines that made it an important junction for goods moving between Mexico and Texas. In 1907, Brownwood became a city under the terms of an act of Congress approved by then-President Theodore Roosevelt. The city's charter was amended in 1925 to allow for extraterritorial residents (foreign citizens who were not citizens of either country) to own property within the limits of the city limits. According as capita growth rates over time, Brownsville would eventually become one of Texas' fastest-growing cities; however, Brownsville's annexation into Houston led to less economic development around Brownwood than what happened in neighboring towns such as Amarillo or New Braunfels. In 2003, a group consisting primarily of local ranchers began working on developing a plan for redevelopment of brownwood center which included creating new housing developments, businesses, schools and other public services within walking distance from each other as well as increasing access to green space for locals and tourists alike along with restoring some historic buildings including churches and hospitals closed during World War II when many Texans left for safety reasons
The town of Brownwood, Texas was founded in 1879 by James Brown and his family. The town grew quickly due to its location on the main path between Dallas and Houston. In the 1920s, the Browns moved to Lubbock, Texas and closed the grocery store in Brownwood. However, they continued to sell food products from their home until they sold it all in 1984.
