Brenham is a small town in Trinity County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Brenham was founded in 1881 by George and Martha Brenham as a small farming settlement on the banks of the Brazos River. The Brenham Post Office was established in 1882, and became a general store in 1907. In 1923, the first hogs were killed here and sold to nearby Fort Worth for bacon. A new branch of Houston's Sam Houston Library opened here in 1984. The old post office building still stands and serves as a museum (opened to the public in 2001). Brenham is located at (29.660921, -97.812362). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Brenham has a humid subtropical climate with abbreviated typology: "Cfa". The town has experienced several natural disasters over its history: flash flooding from rains during Hurricane Ike in 2009; an EF3 tornado that struck on July 12th, 1965; and another EF3 tornado that struck on October 15th 1980 which destroyed most of downtown including much of what is now known as "The Avenue" which used to be one of the town's main commercial areas

Brenham, Texas is located in the American state of Texas. The city was founded in 1851 by John Brenham and his family. In 1903, the United States Post Office in Brenham became the first post office to be open in Dallas County. As Brenham grew, it annexed parts of neighboring towns such as Temple and Westlake. By 1907, Brenham had a population of over 100 people and was renamed for Lieutenant Colonel James Fenton Smith, commander of the 1st Cavalry Regiment which served in the Mexican-American War. In 1925, after years of growth and development, Brenham incorporated as a city under its own government with a population of over 500 people. Today, Brenham is home to over 8500 residents who are composed primarily of expatriates from around the world who work at various businesses located within its boundaries. BrenHAM’S HISTORY: John Brenham met his wife Anna about 1844 when they were both working on a farm near Corpus Christi. Anna was born about 1820 near Carthage Creek Indian Village on Red River where her father owned land that later became known as Arlington Heights Rancho de la Victoria (now part of Irving). In 1851 John married Anna and together they started farming in what is now known as downtown BrenHAM nicknamed “The City” because it had not yet been platted or developed as an area for housing back then….In 1893 Brennan got himself elected Mayor pro tempore while living out his last days there before he died at age 83 years old; he had held this position since 1887 when local option voting first came into effect hereabouts After serving one term (1893- 1895) JFenton Smith took office as Mayor pro tempore until his death one year later at age 84 years old…..After JFenton’s funeral Vice President James Buchanan took office temporarily until Dodge could be found to run for Governor… Dodge won handily but resigned 3 months after inauguration due to health problems caused by long hours spent campaigning all across Texas during those difficult Reconstruction times….Dodge moved back east to New York City where he died on March 2nd 1896…..In 1903 Mrs.J Fenton Smith donated land adjacent to then called “TheCity proper” including much lower East Side which has since become known simply as Downtown BRENHAM……In 1925 eastern half OF THE CITY CAME INTO KNOWN AS DOWNTOWN BRENHAM WHEN IT WAS INCORPORATED UNDER ITS OWN GOVERNMENT WITH A POPULATION OF OVER 500 PEOPLE
Brenham was founded in 1849 by the brothers John and James Brenham. The Brenhams were early settlers in what is now Texas. They were among the first white people to reside in the area that would become Brenham County. The Brenham family landed on a small ranch near present-day Midland after sailing from England on a ship called the "Nemo." John Brennam had been born in 1784, and his father, James, was born in 1787. The three Brennams arrived in Midland on July 4, 1849, when Midland was still part of Mexico. James Brennam married Maria Valenzuela on December 12, 1848. They had two children: John A. (1850-1927) and Mary H.. (1851-1925).
