Borger is a town in Coryell County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Borger is located on the Llano River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Borger has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps. The first Europeans to visit this area were Spanish explorers in 1540. In 1814, General Sam Houston crossed the Llano and named it San Antonio de Borger after his friend and mentor José de la Vega y Pavón. The name was applied permanently to the entire Coryell County area by an act of Congress on March 26, 1836. The first post office in what is now Coryell County was established in 1848; it closed in 1871. The present town of Borger was founded on February 13, 1899 by James Fenton Boger with land donated from John Ottman near present day Selma Avenue and US289. In 1903 James Fenton Boger donated additional land for the town site; this included Barnes Road which became available when US 290 was built through that portion of Coryell County that would eventually become Borger Township. At first there were only two stores: one operated by Mr. Boger himself and another by his son-in-law Wm Haggerty; but within a few years several more stores had opened up along Barnes Road as people began moving into the new township to take advantage of its good location: just outside of McKinney city Limits between Aransas Pass and Pearsall Junction on FM 925 east of IH 35W (the pre-Llano Highway) made for easy access to shopping opportunities all around McKinney without having to travel any further than downtown or outlying areas such as Aransas Pass or Pearsall Junction - something that would be difficult if not impossible today! Many businesses still remain today – most notably Chico’s Mexican Restaurant which continues operation since 1949 while also being home to many other local businesses like Flowers Unlimited grocery store chain (which moved from Aransas Pass into new headquarters right next door back in 1988), Jiffy Lube oil station (now part of Service Station Joe's), Post Office Storage facility across from Flowers Unlimited - all making their presence known inside and outside of Chico’s Mexican Restaurant where everyone knows their names! Today there are over 25 businesses operating inborgertownsendtx 92601 with Holyoke Savings Bank being newest addition opening doors this past week!
