The Boerne Army National Guard was organized on October 1, 1903. The unit was called the "Boerne Regiment" and served in the Mexican-American War. On July 17, 1906, the regiment was redesignated as the "Texas Rangers". On October 1, 1907, The Texas Rangers were reorganized as the Boerne Army National Guard. The unit served in World War I and World War II. In 1945, the unit was redesignated as the " Texas Department of Defense (TDD) Ranger Battalion." The battalion served for many years with CDD until it disbanded in 1996. Today, a portion of the Texas Department of Defense (TxDOT) is still active with reports that there may be up to 100 TDD Ranger Battalions remaining in existence statewide from all over Texas!

In 1888 it changed its name to "Boerne" after General James Fenton Boozer who served as commander of Union forces during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). On October 12, 1876, local citizens voted to form a new town from parts of Garland and McKinney Counties east of Decatur Street due to lack of transportation within their respective communities for goods and people moving into new areas during that period. In 1909 Boerne became annexation territory for Dallas whenDallas annexed Richland County which included much of north central Webb County including present-day Boerne. On July 1st 1913 Boerne was annexed into Dallas becoming one municipality within the newly formedDallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area with its own charter and government separate from Dallas’s mayoralty and public school system. With rapid population growth over the years – especially during World War II – boerena decided to build a water tower downtown in order to provide potable water for all residents regardless of income or location inside or outside the city limits!
