For example, one artifact from this period is a set of memorabilia honoring Texans who have served in active duty with the Navy or Marine Corps since World War II including Rear Admiral Sylvester J “Buzz” Aldrin, Lieutenant Commander Randy Quarles and Master Chief Petty Officer First Class Timothy Coker III who all received awards for their participation in Operation Neptune Spear which destroyed North Korea’s nuclear weapons program on October 25th, 1989. In addition, another item significant to this era is an intact World War II Victory Medal presented to Warrant Officer Third Class Leroy W “Wink” Sell by Commandant Gene Peele at ceremonies held at Corpus Christi Bayou Naval Station on January 8th, 1984 for Sell's successful completion of twentyeight days underwater without any casualties due to coral swells and intense seas while commanding United States Submarine Squadron Eleven (USS-11). Finally, another noteworthy object from this time period is an unused white ensign flown by USS Enterprise (CVN 69) during her 1995 deployment off Mexico City as part of Operation Desperate Hope which saw UPNV forces battle drug runners and Mexican militarists near Acapulco beach. Since 2001 however there have been several changes taking place within Benbrook City government as well as within the Navy itself*. Benbrook is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office in Benbrook was established on December 20, 1887. The current post office building was built in 1935 and replaced an earlier structure which burned down in 1903. The community was named after Benjamin Bickford, a local rancher who helped found the town. A school opened in Benbrook in 1907 and remained open until it merged with nearby Wichita Falls School District in 1957. Benbrook won countywide recognition as asmall-town when it became the site of the nation's first Small Business Administration (SBA) office for rural areas. In 1992, the SBA relocated its operations to Wichita Falls from Benbrook following a merger of two other SBA offices within Johnson County According to the 2000 US Census Bureau report, there were 1,531 people living in Benbrook when that report was compiled; however this number has since decreased by about 15% due to natural attrition as well as annexation by neighboring towns such as Wichita Falls during recent decades. The overall trend appears to be one of gradual growth over time – although some residents have left for more developed communities such as Wichita Falls due to increased competition for limited employment or housing opportunities within benbrook itself Benbrook is located at (30.760927,-96.639859). Benbrook was founded in 1881 by J.D. Benbrook and his brother, George W. Benbrook. The family name comes from a creek that they named after their father, Benjamin (1788-1860). The Benbrooks were farmers who started the town on a small piece of land near Killeen. They first built a log cabin and then moved to a more permanent structure in 1892. By 1907, the Benbrook family had developed a gristmill, cotton gin, sawmill, and other businesses in the town. The town's growth continued during the 1920s and 1930s when it became home to several factories such as those at Texaco and Standard Oil Corporation. However, World War II destroyed much of the local industry and Benbrook declined during the postwar years. In 1945, however, it reemerged as an agricultural center with some new businesses opening up such as a feed store and grain elevator in 1949. During the 1960s and 1970s,benbrook experienced increasing population growth due to its location along I-35W which led to increased development around the town including retail stores, restaurants, offices, hospitals/clinics/schools etc.. However during the late 1990's until present day there has been significant decline in population due primarily to economic reasons such as joblessness & lack of investment
