Benbrook is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area. Benbrook is located on FM 1960 west of Arlington and on US 90 east of Wiley Post. The first settlers to the area were three brothers who established a homestead in 1824 near what is now Benbrook Elementary School. They named their land Benbrook after one of their two daughters, Bertha (Bingham). The other brother, John Hays (Haley), developed a cattle ranch nearby and sold his land to the Benbrook family in 1852. In 1865, General Sam Houston granted an open range to John Brougham and his sons-in-law for $10 per acre ($ today). A post office called "Benbrook" was established in 1868, but it was discontinued operations by 1870 because of lack of mail service from Arlington. In 1903–1904 George Washington Carver set out from Wichita Falls with plans to become America's first commercial crop farmer; he stopped at Benbrook for lunch that day. After setting up permanent agriculture there for several years he returned back home to Wichita Falls in 1907 and started The Agricultural Experiment Station which still operates today as The University of Texas at Austin's Agricultural Research Center (). By 1916 more than half a million acres (2,400 km²) had been planted with cotton plantations across all 12 Uates States; however World War I interrupted this growth., However cotton production resumed following World War II when new technologies made it possible to raise large crops without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides

Benbrook is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. The town started as a small community on the east side of the Benbrook Mountains and soon grew to include settlements on both sides of the mountain. In 1892, Benbrook became part of Hudspeth County. The first post office in Benbrook was opened in 1886. The name "Benbrook" was derived from Mount Benbrook or Big Ida Mountain. According to one account, settlers named their first home after Benjamin Franklin because he had been an early benefactor of their town. One theory suggests that "ben" means "rocky outcropping" and "brook" means "thorn". In 1896, two companies organized to build a railroad through Hudspeth County: the First National Railroad Company and the Texas & Pacific Railway Company. Construction began on what would become known as the Big Hill Cutoff Road; today's US-61 Alternate route between Dallas and Austin.. On July 10, 1892, Benbrook became part of Hudspeth County when James Fenton was elected its first mayor. According to historian Donnellan Fordham's book benbroktexas: A History ofbenbrook-hudspeth county (2000), during World War I local residents donated food and munitions to support allied troops fighting in Europe while also manufacturing munitions at their own homes; these activities netted them 15% federal tax breaks which allowed them to expand rapidly into other businesses such as oil production which continued until well into the 1970s%. By 1930 there were about 350 individuals employed in various industries within benbroktexas including agriculture (livestock), logging (hardwood lumber), retail trade (fruits and vegetables), engineering/manufacturing (machinery/robotics), transportation/commerce (road building/construction).
