By the early 1800s, trade with Mexico had created a demand for coffee that outstripped the supply from Africa. Coffee became an important commodity for U.S. merchants and Andalusian farmers who contributed to the growth of Beeville by growing coffee beans and selling them abroad. The first Starbucks opened in 1984 in what is today known as downtown Beeville. In 2001, Starbucks moved its headquarters from Seattle to Austin after becoming one of the first American companies to sign an affiliation agreement with the University of Texas at Austin (UTA). In October 2006, Starbucks announced plans to open another location in Beeville, making it one of only two locations worldwide outside of Seattle-Tacoma (the other being London’s Wetherspoons tea shop). In December 2007, Starbucks reached an agreement with UTA to create a new undergraduate engineering program that would join forces with UTA’s business school, Rice University. The resulting partnership would create more than 1,000 jobs within five years and help fuelBeeville’s economic revival since 2000. Beeville is a town in and the county seat of Beeville County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Beeville" was derived from Spanish for "place where beaver live." The first European to encounter the beaver in what is now Beeville County was Antonio de la Garza, who traveled through that region in 1718. He noted that there were many beavers living near the mouth of the Trinity River, and he named one of these streams after his friend and ally, Francisco López de Santa Anna. Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna founded what would become Beeville on November 16, 1807 while campaigning against Native Americans east of San Antonio. In 1836, when Austin became the capital of Texas, Beeville became its first municipal government. At that time it consisted of only a few homes scattered among several farmers around what are now downtown streets and squares including Sixth Street (now Main Street), Elm Street (now Houston Avenue), Lamar Boulevard (now I-10), Market Square (now Republic Plaza), and White Settlement Road (later renamed Elmendorf Road). In 1840 Census data shows that there were 9 active citizens & over 100 animals present with a total value $4 contributions— an all-time high for rural Texan society! On January 1st 1840 residents voted to form a consolidated city government under one mayor with powers including judicial review; however City Council did not adopt this proposal until February 4th 1840 due to strong opposition from some within their own ranks! By 1845 most residents had left for new opportunities or moved away as ranching activity increased along Utopia Creek northward into present day Bowie County. However about 25% still lived in town limits contributing $10 per year toward common expenses like firewood collection which continued until 1906 when statehood made those costs null & void! On December 15th 1865 Union General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House ending World War II in America. Beeville, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first European to visit Beeville was Antonio Lopez de Portocarrero in 1693. A post office called Beeville was established in 1876, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1868, J.D. Webb founded Webb's Mills on the banks of the Brazos River near what is now downtown Beeville. Webb's mills were one of the early cotton plantations in Hudspeth County. The mill owner and his family are buried at Cypress Grove Cemetery near Beeville. In 1915, John Fenton bought Webb's Mills and continued to operate it until its closure in 1971. The town developed around two railroad stations: a junction for the Katy Railroad east of town and a junction for the Texaco Railway west of town (now known as I-35). The local bank became one of Hudspeth County’s most important commercial institutions during this time period with branches throughout the community (including an annex located on North Lamar Boulevard). During World War II, many soldiers living close to Fort Hood received food from Beeville grocery stores which also produced munitions for use at Fort Hood; these stores closed after 1945 because Of wartime regulation prohibiting grocery store sales to service troops stationed abroad during that conflict In 1951 General Sam Houston High School opened across Neches Street from Municipal Court House which had been used by Judge James Bowie as both court house and jail prior to that date; General Houston’s father had beenoriginally elected Sheriff of Hudspeth County In 1847 When Judge Bowie resigned May 15th 1861 he took with him all civil case records & land deeds file from District Attorney’s Office buildings on Neches street when they moved south & taken over by new District Attorney who built His own building On May 3d 1861 when district attorney left office He put all his old files back into courthouse before moving out moored up on Neches Street next to steamboat dock where he lived Until his death Which happened about 1940 Beeville is home to three churches: First Baptist Church (founded 1865), Christ Episcopal Parish (founded 1949), and Presbyterian Church (founded 1886). There are also several small businesses including a convenience store/grocery store operated by Mrs Tomlinson since 1978, a gas station/convenience store operated by Mr King since 1984, a dry cleaning business operated by Mrs Easley since 1990 - formerly run as Mrs Hawkins' Cleaning Company - an ice cream parlor serving hot dogs through 1976 and later chocolate cones - closed 2009 but reopened as Hope Ice Cream Parlor under new ownership late 2011 or early 2012 Businesses have changed hands quite often within recent memory so there isn't much accurate local history available
