Beeville is a town in and the county seat of Beeville County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Beeville was Levi Barnes. He and his family are buried at Mount Zion Cemetery. On October 7, 1836, John Wesley Powell founded the city of Denver on the Rio Grande near today's Ciudad Juárez, Mexico City with 320 pioneers from Colorado Territory including Barnes and his three children: Levi Jr., Sallie (Sally), and Jack (Jack). In 1839–40 Hernando de Soto set out for Texas on his ill-fated reconnaissance expedition known as De Soto's Expedition into Texas which failed to find any new land suitable for settlement in present day Beeville or within 100 miles of Dallas. A few months after De Soto's Expedition left for Texas some men who had followed him on horseback discovered a small piece of land about four miles south of present day Beeville that they called "Mesa Blanca." They named it Beeville because white settlers had not yet arrived there from California to take up residence. The first permanent house built in what is now Beevillesite was erected by Ransom Goodloe around 1840 while he lived near Mesa Blanca with his brother Nathaniel Goodloe Sr.. During the Mexican–American War (1846–47) many people living around Mesa Blanca came to help defend Santa Anna's capital Texarkana against American forces under General Sam Houston. When hostilities ended most people returned home but a few families remained behind to help care for Santa Anna's troops until peace came through 1848 when Mexico ceded its claim toTexas back to America without giving up its colony of California Over time much development took place in Mesa Blanca including several schools, churches and businesses which continue operation even today such as Plus One Liquor Store & Grill located on West State Street just east of Interstate 10 . The annexation by Dallas gave rise to several controversies such as whether or not onlyDallasites were allowed to vote in the town’s incorporation but also whether or not all citizens were required to reside within Dallas limits . In fact until recent times it has been difficult determined exactly where downtownBeeville truly lays since so much redevelopment has taken place outside defined boundaries over time especially along I-10
The town of Beeville, Texas was founded in 1851 by General Sam Houston. The town grew quickly due to its strategic location on the Red River. In 1875, Beeville became a county seat and was renamed Fort Worth. The city of Fort Worth annexed Beeville in 1896.
