The center of town was built on the site of an old cotton gin and has been home to many businesses including several grocery stores and two hospitals since it beginnings. In 1907, Beeville became the county seat of Hudspeth County after being moved from nearby Cedar Creek. In 1930, Beeville incorporated as a city with a population of about 2,000 people. That same year saw the opening of The First Baptist Church which remains one of the most important churches in town today. After World War II, Beeville experienced rapid growth asFort Worth began to attract more manufacturing jobs and new residents relocated to be near Fort Worth's major shopping malls and highways. However, this growth slowed during the late 1990s due to budget cuts by then- Mayor Donny Ferguson and other local officials who were fearful that Fort Worth would outstrip Houston in economic development goals set by then-Governor Rick Perry himself. Since 2000, however, things have begun to change again with growth in downtown Beeville along with new development projects around Interstate 35W just east of town limits which are now known as "The Loop." These recent developments have helped revive downtown business activity while also providing much needed employment opportunities for locals while also increasing access to quality educational opportunities within close proximity to both school district boundaries as well as neighboring cities such as Austin and Dallas which make up much of Hudspeth County's commercial heartland
