Bedford, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls metropolitan area. Bedford was founded in 1876 by immigrants from Bedfordshire, England. The community became a small logging and farming center due to its location on the Red River near the present-day city of Wichita Falls. The community had two banks and one grocery store when it was first settled. The post office was granted to Bedford on October 9, 1876, by James Witherspoon Burton and wife Nancy Jane. On June 6, 1907, it was renamed for John Bedford II after his death in an accident near Hutchinson that year. Bedfords are among the oldest Anglo-Saxon families in Midland County and their descendants continue to live here today. On January 15, 1959, Bedford Elementary School opened its doors to students as part of a larger school system consolidation effort in Midland County; all of Deweyville's schools were consolidated into Bedford along with four other schools within Deweyville itself: Cedar Ridge (now Cedar Creek), Florence Heights (now FM 3593), Highland Park (now Hwy 69), and Laddie Hills (now US 287). Benedictine nuns who lived at Our Lady of Loreto Abbeyowned the land that would become Bedford and donated it toMidland County for development as a school system merger proposal on December 3rd 1955; this plan failed because voters did not want any new taxes imposed upon them without their say so however they did back annexation plans for all six other schools within Deweyville which resulted in seven new homes being built there including three elementary schools with additions such as bleachers/homeschooling rooms/internet access while Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church still functions as an parish church today with services conducted there also using facilities adjacent to current conventual property

Bedford is a town in Starr County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,859 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Mormons in 1872 as Cedar City. Bedford is named after Samuel Bedford, who donated land to the town. The first school in Bedford opened in 1875 and was located on the east side of Town Square. The first post office opened in 1880 and was located on Main Street. In 1907, the town built a new school on Turnpike Road which became known as Bedford High School. In 1912, the name of the high school changed to Bedford Junior/Senior High School. In 1977, the high school building became home to Southwestern Baptist University (SWBU) and remains that way today. In 1951, when Starr County was created from portions of Webb County, Bedford became part of it and has been its only incorporated municipality ever since. The population grew rapidly during World War II with soldiers stationed here including those who served in Pearl Harbor and Iwo Jima; however, much of this growth came later as other parts of Starr County were annexed into larger counties or pulled away from jurisdictions entirely during that time period

In 1897, a cotton gin and three other businesses were erected within the town boundaries. In 1907, a water tower was erected within Bedford.
