In January 1949, during Lyndon B Johnson's presidency, President Harry S Truman announced plans for Interstate 20 to be built through southern Dallas County; this would result in most of Arlington Heights being annexed into Bedford Village (along with other parts of Arlington Heights that had not been annexed). On July 1, 1950 – less than two months after Johnson's announcement – Arlington Heights annexed all but a tiny corner of Bedfordvillage to form Arlingtontowne Bedford has experienced some significant growth over time: its population increased from 3,000 to 5,883 between 2000 and 2010; its population reached 6,092 by 2016; and its population continues to grow even as downtownDallas’s residents continue to outnumber those living within Bedford Village by about 2-to-1 . Mayor John Daley set out goals for Bedford during his tenure as mayor—including increasing access to education for all citizens regardless of economic status or ethnicity; creating jobs for local residents; preserving parkland surrounding the community; redeveloping older industrial sites into new housing developments; and improving public transportation options within walking distance of the village center—all while continuing to support traditional values like family setting and interpersonal relationships among friends/family .
