The Bedford Army Post was established in 1886. The post served as the main army depot for artillery, ordnance, and cavalry units during World War I. The post also provided storage for military equipment and supplies. After the war, the post continued to be used as an army general store until it closed in 1951. In World War II, the Bedford Army Post became a major center for distributing ammunition and other supplies to military units across Texas. In 1945, the post was renamed Fort Worth Army Base after Fort Worth became part of the United States Military Forces. The base served as an important staging ground for American troops during the Korean War and Vietnam War. In 1966, Fort Worth Army Base was decommissioned and its assets were transferred to Bedford Army Post. Today, BedfordArmyPost is home to a variety of military facilities used by different branches ofthe U.S armed forces. These include a barracksitory for soldiers on leave; aprocessing plant for accepting Andhra Pradesh's citizens who enlisted in the Indian military; an armory that houses tanks, artillery pieces, rifles, pistols and other weapons; and a gymnasium used by members ofthe U.S military reserves as well as cadets from various high school programs inBedford County Schools (BCS).
