The Bay City Coast Guard Station was established in 1912. The station has been manned by the Bay City Police Department and the Coast Guard since then.
Bay City is a city in and the county seat of Bay County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,343 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Bay City were Spanish explorers on their way from Mexico City to Zacatecas in 1541. They named it San Pedro de la Laguna for Saint Peter, who had been martyred in that place some years earlier. A mission was established there in 1795 by Father Antoine Bénigne de Caylus under the name of Santiago del Rio Grande; it was abandoned after only a year. In 1827, Captain Charles Goodyear explored and charted the Brazos River near present day Bay City while commandeering HMS "Ganges" for his exploration company. He named this river's stream--now known as Goodyear Creek--after him. When Texas became an American state in 1845, Bay City became its first capital; it remained so until Austin took control of all federal government buildings south of Ulysses S. Grant Boulevard on March 14, 1849. In 1851–52, Bay City built one of its earliest brick buildings, which still stands today at 9th and Colorado streets (now home to several restaurants). On November 5th of that year, General Sam Houston surrendered at San Jacinto Plaza northeast of town after a three-day battle during the Mexican-American War with Santa Anna’s forces; Bay City played a significant role in this event as its largest town east of The Alamo and just north of today’s Interstate 10 entrance off IH10 near Westville Village & FM 2924 (Old Hwy 20), now known as Gulfshore Drury & Gulfstream Drury Way./BayCity Independent School District #2 also participated militarily/On January 1st 1861 Governor Mirabeau Boggs proclaimed “The independence of Texas has been brought about by successfully resisting Mexican aggression” leading to increased activity within the small community preceding annexation by Austin on February 12th 1861 In 1870 John Lubbock founded Midland Steamship Company with offices at what is now downtown Midland Park Mall and shipped goods upriver from Harrisburg Landing where he operated a wharf next to Schuller’s Ferry landing downstream from what is now Intercontinental Airport ashore then leased back to Lubbock Railroad Company but finally sold outright To Southern Pacific Railroad just prior ToHouston Astros Ball Game played At Astrodome

The Coast Guard was established on April 15, 1790 as a result of the Continental Congress’ resolution calling for an organization to be set up to protect American coasts and waters. The first members of the Coast Guard were sworn in on that date. At its inception, the Coast Guard had two primary objectives: To provide security for ships and people on America’s coasts and seas, and To promote maritime trade by monitoring coastal traffic. It wasn’t until 1923 that the Coast Guard began operating a shore patrol capability. This change was due in part to limitations of funding at that time which required only a limited number of officers and men to patrol all coastlines simultaneously. In 1967, a new command structure was created when it was realized that different services could no longer operate effectively within separate headquarters structures. That year, the Commandant became Director General instead of just Commander General which made him operational head of both service branches working together as one bureau under one roof.
