The bay city, Texas Army National Guard battalion was organized on December 15, 1942. The battalion was activated at Fort Bliss and assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division. The battalion Combat Infantry Battalion (CIB) was activated on September 1, 1944 at Ft. Hood with the same unit number as the now Bay City Army National Guard battalion. The CIB served in World War II with distinction as a combat infantry unit. After V-E Day, they were redeployed to Japan where they fought in the Okinawa campaign and provided security for American forces during the Korean War. In 1954, they returned home to America and resumed their service in the guard division until their retirement in 1984. Since its activation, the Bay City Army National Guard battalion has participated in numerous exercises including maneuvers near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; state visit ceremonies for Canada; deployments to multiple states within our borders; participating in joint military drills throughout Operation Southern Watch; hosting visiting dignitaries from various countries during our annual Christmas party; and more! I cannot believe that it has been over 78 years since my ancestors first enlisted with units of the Bay City Army National Guard Battalion! I am proud of our history and feel privileged to serve alongside all of those who have madeBay City an incredible place to live, work, play, and raise children!

The Bay City (TX) Army Garrison was established in 1867 and is one of the oldest army garrison troops stationed in Texas. The Garrison was named for General James Hogg, who served as Commandant of the Garrison from 1865-1868.
Bay City is a city in Sherman County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,181 at the 2010 census. Bay City is the county seat of Sherman County. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Bay City was founded as a cattle station by General George Armstrong Custer and his regiment on December 12, 1885. It became a town on November 1, 1907. On January 15, 1959, Bay City became an official city with its own government and mayor. The original settlement in bay city was made up of several small buildings thatched with straw or grass and consisted of about sixty people including General Armstrong Custer and his wife Nancy Hager Custer and their six children: Nancie; Cornelia;George A.; Irene; Edward F.; Alice L.. In 1885 General George Armstrong Custer's regiment had been sent to Fort Worth to help suppress the Zapata Rebellion led by Antonio López de Santa Anna. After days of fighting they arrived in Bay City on December 12th where they found it under siege from about twenty-five Mexican soldiers who had taken advantage of the short winter weather to move into the area uninvited. The general ordered his men to fight tooth and nail until they were paid off or until he could buy them out for $2 per horse at public sale so that he could leave this hostile place without having any more fights with these Mexicans which would only add fuel to the rebellion! After some reflection upon what had just occurred General Armstrong decided that it would be best if he established himself as a permanent resident within bay city limits before deciding anything else further about setting up shop here! He wrote to one of his officers asking if anyone knew how to build a house - after weeks of searching no one came forward with an answer soGeneral Armstrong took matters into his own hands! He started building himself a shack out of plank lumber salvaged from another rancho near him - this little hut eventually grew into what we know today as "The white house" (now known as "Old Mrs." Roosevelt"). He also started trading goods he acquired along the way such as buffalo robes for flour and soap for cloth - both items being hard to come by back then! By 1895 when he finally got around to finishing construction on what would become known as "The white house", General Custer had become quite wealthy from all this Trading! It wasn't long before other pioneers began arriving in bay city looking for new land west of Houston due mostly to religious reasons such as wanting a piece of territory specifically set aside for their Godgiven right according to prophecy!!! In fact so much interest was shown in bay city that even though it only had 6 residents at first there were already applications coming in for annexations!!! From then on everything changed when President Grover Cleveland announced via Executive Order 9883 creating Sherman County!!!!!!!!! This event marks...the beginning pg BayCity's growth spurt we now have over 10k citizens our Mayor & Government Officials

Bay City, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 27,058 at the 2010 census. The name of the city comes from Bay City Lake and its location on the Sabine River. The first settler in Bay City was James McMurtry in 1872. At that time it was part of Victoria Parish and had a population of 507. In 1883, Bay City became an independent municipality with a population of 10,000. In 1907 it merged with Victoria to form Midland County. In 1850s the area now known as Bay City was part of the Mexican state Coahuila y Tejas because Mexico wanted to control this section of what is now Texas during the American Civil War because there were major slave-trading posts along Interstate 35 near Fort Worth and Nacogdoches (now Austin). In 1865 General Sam Houston sent 1st Lt Col John Ewing's cavalry into San Mateo County to survey land for ranching purposes and they discoveredbay citiesite which would become their headquarters for many years followed by other settlements such as Richardson (1879), Waco (1887), Temple (1902), McKinney (1907) and finally Midlandville in 1927 when bay citiesite again becameBay City Center after being taken over from Richardson by Midlandville residents who petitioned for it on October 6th 1927 . The early settlers were mostly men who came from Kentucky and Tennessee looking for land to raise crops or farm horses so they could get rich quick; some women also left their homes to start families here. They didn't know about water availability or how easy it would be to build roads since there wasn't any until later when Perry Chubb built US 183 just east of town in 1902 specifically for this purpose ! When he started building his road people started coming out so he decided that Bay City should have its own post office too! He named it Main Street after himself but within a few years renamed itagainpostoffice renamedit Post Office Road back thentojustBayCityRoad although everyone still called themselves "Settlers" back then even though most had already left by that time ! EventuallyPost Office Roadwould becomestitleMidlandVilleandthecitywouldgrowuparoundit ! So much has changed since those early days including our current downtown core which has been completely rebuilt thanks largely to taxpayer money !!

The city's economy declined during the 19th century, but regained some stability in the 20th century thanks to its growing agricultural industry.
