The United States Army has been deploying gifts to Bay City, Texas for over a century. The first Soldier from the United StatesArmy was stationed in Bay City on December 12th, 1861. As part of this deployment, Sergeant First Class Johnnie Hargrave donated a quantity of cigarettes to Bay City soldiers as a relaxation gift.On July 8th 1919 Captain James A Cook arrived in Bay City and delivered cigars as a soldier's souvenir to residents and businesses. Captain Cook was later given an honorary discharge by Mayor George W McCombs on October 2nd 1919 due to his military service during World War I . There have been other deployments throughout the years where Soldiers from different units have visited or given gifts to locals in Bay City. Gifts have come in all shapes and sizes, but some common themes include munitions supplies (e.g., ammunition pouches), tools (e.g., axes), vehicles (e.g., Humvees), decorations (e.g., ribbons or medals) and food items like candy bars or chocolates.(From 1881-1919)In 1886 it was reported that there were seven cigar stores located around town including one called "Gift Shop" which sold cigars direct from Havana at cost of $1 per box . In 1898 two store proprietors named Thomas Gaffney & Harry O'Brien opened up gift shop near US Post Office located at present day Springdale Avenue and Elm Street It is interesting to note that both Gaffney & O'Brien operated their business until about 1920 when they closed their doors because they could not compete with local cigar shops run by friends/family members . In 1918 General Headquarters Brigade left Fort Worth for Camp Bowie making it the first time such troops had ever deployed permanently within Texas It should also be noted that between 1907-1920 there were only three events held in memory of fallen Soldiers while deployed - First National Arts Day commemoration ceremony at Confederate Memorial Monument on November 17th 1907 followed by Fourth Infantry Regiment Reunion event which took place at White Sands Missile Range on February 5th 1912 These three small events served more as commemorative tokens rather than actual events taking place during deployment as mandated by law

Bay City is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the Gulf of Mexico about 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Corpus Christi and 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Houston. As of 2010, Bay City had a population of 136,824. The city was founded in 1854 by James Hogg and his family as Port Arthur on the Aransas River. The first post office in Bay City was established in 1855, and the first store was opened in 1857. The town name originated from Spanish bay or bayside near where it now stands. In 1865, John Denton named it after Captain Isaac Bayly who had fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. In 1872, railroad magnate James Peebles bought an interest inPort Arthur Railway Company which connected Bay City with Corpus Christi and Houston. He renamed it Bay City after himself and his new city became one of America's "largest inland coastal cities". By 1900, Bay City's population had grown to over 50,000 people with its central business district consisting of three blocks - Second Street between Lamar Boulevard and Brazos Avenue; Third Street between Lamar Boulevard and Main Street; and Fourth Street between Main Street andstate Highway 290/I-10 (or I-610). A major fire that destroyed most downtown businesses occurred on November 11th 1925; however, reconstruction began immediately without loss to business or life. On September 12th 1929 local businessmen met at the First National Bank building to form what would become known as The Clubmen which lasted until 1978 when it merged into another bank because of mergers And consolidations throughout TX area banks since then
