Since Balch Springs became known as the coffee capital of the world, its residents have contributed to the city's rich coffee history. The first coffee beans were roasted on this site in 1876 by John Denton and his brother-in-law, Gideon Graves. The early years of Balch Springs' coffee history were collaborative and cooperative. Many of the people who lived and breathed coffee in Balch Springs came from nearby Fort Worth, which was then a booming town with thriving businesses and a population of over 100,000 people. Coffee growers in Fort Worth helped promote and sell Balch Springs' beans to other merchants in Dallas and Houston. In 1902, local resident Lorenzo Barnes started purchasing land at SE 6th Street and Old US 90 for the purpose of growing coffee. By 1912, Barnes had developed a large plantation that included over 150 acres of land. The first production season on Barnes' plantation yielded an estimated 50 metric tons (100 lb) of premium quality coffeebeans per acre. Today, Barnes' plantation continues to produce high quality beans under the guidance of his son-in-law and successor, Tim Hagerty. In 2011, Barnes was inducted into the Texas Coffee Hall Of Fame

Balch Springs, Texas is a small town located in Hardin County, Texas. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is home to the TX state capital Austin. In addition to its commercial district, Balch Springs has several smaller neighborhoods which include Frogtown, Indian Hills and Rancho Viejo. The first settlement in what is now Balch Springs was made by German colonists in 1836. They named their new community "Grosse Pointe" after a place in Michigan where they had been driven by Native Americans as slaves. A post office called "Baldwinville" was established here in 1849, but it failed to take off and was discontinued two years later. In 1854, John Sargent founded the cattle ranch that became known as Sargent's Station on the San Antonio River northeast of present-day Balch Springs. In 1865, James Witherspoon purchased land here from Sargent and began development of what would become Witherspoon's Colony subdivision which included much of today's Balch Springs area including Frogtown and Indian Hills. By 1870,Balch Springs had a population of 550 residents and belonged to Hardin County (later Travis County). In 1907 Witherspoon donated land near his colony for Stowers Memorial Hospital which would become one of America's largest hospitals with over 1700 beds when it opened its doors in 1912. After decades of growth during which many homes were built on this donated land along with shopping malls, churches and other businesses adjacent to Stowers Memorial Hospital – including Southern Methodist University –balchSprings’s once sleepy downtown closed its doors for good in 2001 amidst opposition from local officials who saw it as an impediment to economic development around HSHP while also losing revenue due to increased vehicle traffic on Uptown Drive around the hospital campus followed by no new development within blocks thereof since Stowers Memorial Hospital shut down more than 20 years ago! Today there are several small businesses situated within walking distance or easily accessible driving distances of HSHP such as Main Street Bakery & Cafe ($10 cupcakes), Crossroads BBQ $10 sandwiches/burgers & fries + side dishes (5pm-1am), Midas Wellness Center ($15 facials/ body treatments/$25 massages) - open 7 days a week - offers acupuncture services (6pm-2am), physical therapy services (9am-5pm), weightlifting classes (11am-1pm)and yoga classes offered daily from 6:30pm until 12am
