Some say it began with a small cafe on the corner of Neches and San Jacinto Streets that served coffee and pastries from 1865-1868; others credit the establishment of Coffee House Exchange in 1892 as the first known coffee shop in Athens. In any case, coffee became an important part of Athenian life by the early 1900s, when it was noted as one of the few things that brought people together during times of economic depression. The popularity of espresso machines helped drive cafés and cafes into business during this time period, but it wasn’t until World War II that Athens had its first gourmet coffee shop. The Gilded Cage was opened by Harry Fenton in 1945 and soon became well-known for its unique cupcakes, cakes, and sandwiches made from all sorts of meats and cheeses. It was also at this time that Athens started producing its own roast beans for use in espresso machines. In 1990, Athens’ first roastery opened within walking distance from downtown –hematon Coffee Roasters (now Heaton Coffee). This café quickly became known for its delicious Ethiopian Darjeeling tea – something that still happens today at their store (and online) following some amazing roasts over the years! Heaton also produced its own brand of espresso drinks before moving out into their own space in 2003. Today they continue to produce quality beans while providing a relaxed atmosphere perfect for meeting friends or catching up on life outside work.

It is part of the Ciudad Juárez metropolitan area. The town's name comes from Athens, Georgia and its original location on a small creek south of present-day Athens. The first post office in Athens was established on April 28, 1875. A store and two residences were built there in 1876 by James Dillard. The first school in Athens was opened in 1881 by J.D. McCarthy and operated for one year before being closed due to lack of money. In 1886, Wm Laughlin donated land for a school that would serve the community until 1955 when it was replaced by Athens Middle School which still operates today as an all-girls high school under the name Athena High School

The city of Athens, Texas (population: 34,000) is the seat of Randall County and has been a part of the U.S. since 1836. The town was founded by Texans who moved from Louisiana in 1836 and found land on the banks of the Brazos River. The first settler in Athens was James Purnell, who arrived in 1837. In 1840, George Fenton established a mill on the river and soon after began to sell flour, sugar, bacon and other items to traders in New Orleans. trade continued until railroads arrived in the area in 1865 and transportation became more accessible than ever before. With new mills opening up along the river throughout the late 1800s, Athens grew steadily into a large community with multiple businesses and homes. In 1916, when Prohibition made alcohol illegal across America, demand for goods such as cereals plummeted and many residents closed their businesses; however, some residents chose to stay open because they were unable to find alternative sources of income outside of farming or manufacturing. By 1938, Athens had become an important cotton center due to its location near both Sam Houston National Forest and Wichita Falls Dam; it also became home to several small shops that supplied local farmers with necessary products during harvest season. In 1951-1953 there was a major fire that destroyed most of downtown Athens; however despite this setback, business resumed within weeks as insurance company donations helped rebuild much of what had been lost including Main Street which still stands today as one of Athens' most iconic landmarks

After Reconstruction ended in 1865, Athens declined rapidly and lost most of its population to migration to central and southern California and other states during the 1870s and 1880s. However, it regained some population growth during World War II until it reached its peak population size in 1950 at over 120,000 residents. Since then, Athens has experienced rapid gentrification and loss of neighborhoods due to development in nearby Dallas and Houston.
