The donation allowed Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to use Ulysses S.'s hangar and engine room as their main processing area for illegal entries into or out of Mexico City through this crossing point

Athens, Texas is a small town located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and approximately 20 miles from Dallas. Athens was founded in 1872 by John Marshall Snider and his family. The population of Athens peaked at around 4,000 in the mid-19th century but has declined since then. The current population of Athens is estimated to be just over 1,000 residents. The history of Athens begins with John Marshall Snider who came to Texas in 1852 as a wagoner looking for new land to settle. He found himself on the banks of the Trinity River and decided to build a community based on his findings. The first settlers were J M Snider and his wife Sarah Jane, their two children plus six other citizens they brought over with them from Missouri. They named their new settlement Athens after the city of Athens, Ohio where they had settled earlier that year. Mr Snider died in 1872 while construction on the town continued and it was not until 1880 that it became officially incorporated as a municipality. A variety of businesses were established during its early years including grocery stores, livery stables, post office, schoolhouse and several churches which continue to operate today including First Baptist Church (founded 1878), Washington Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1889) and Christ United Methodist Church (founded 1893). In 1916 when Arlington County was created it included much of Dallas County within its boundaries which led to an increase in business activity along with Population growth due to higher birthrates than death rates throughout most of America during this time period resulting in more people moving into what had been known as "the outposts". Development stalled beginning around World War II due mainly to lack of available capital although some limited housing development occurred during that time also addingto downtown's population increase however commercial heavy industrial use has eliminated any remnants remaining such as large warehouses or factories which once dotted central square today only remnant single story buildings remain scattered throughout residential areas dating back many decades ago

A study of Athens, Texas' history would not be complete without a mention of the city's namesake. Athens was founded by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1803 as the temporary capital of what is now Montana Territory. The city was named after General John C. Austin, who had commanded the expedition and negotiated the treaty that produced this area as part of Mexico City Territory. Austin moved his headquarters to Fort Worth in 1835 and Athens followed suit in1836. The two cities maintained slight contact until their merger into one municipality in 1887. The successful cotton business brought wealth to Athens during its early years; however, it soon became embroiled in financial struggles that led to social unrest and economic decline. In 1865, Reconstruction began which led to increased violence and poverty within Athens limits; however, withstood much worse than other communities across Texas due to its highly influential political and educational community. Despite these challenges, Athenians persevered through several cycles of economic stagnation before finally emerging as a major center for cotton farming during the late 19th century. This resurgence did not last long though: by 1915 cotton production accounted for only 4% of municipally generated revenue while local businesses were struggling to keep up with larger rivals such as Dallas or Houston (which had already become major metropolitan areas).
