Angleton, Texas is a small town located in Kerr County, Texas. The population was 553 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. Angleton was founded in 1867 by James W. Angleton and his family from Illinois. It became a community after it was surveyed by Captain John Baca on November 5, 1865. The town site was chosen because of its proximity to a water well and its location within sight of the Goliad Mountains. Angleton's first post office opened in 1868 and served until 1872 when it moved to nearby Killeen. In 1886, Angleton had its first schoolhouse built and operated until 1888 when it moved to what is now the library building. In 1902, Angleton incorporated as a municipality with a population of 300 residents In 1927, Angleton annexationDearborn County resulted in the establishment of Clear Lake City adjacent to present day Angleton; this annexation created an even larger community which has continued to grow since that time. In 1978, following Handbook Rule No 2 changes (the change giving cities more power over their own zoning), Clear Lake City annexed back into Anglington resulting in an increase in population by about 20%. The current total population for both communities is approximately 1,500 people. On May 9th, 2018 Mayor Linda Chavez announced her candidacy for Uvalde County Commissioner seat vacated by Rebecca Sanchez.
