The United States Army Garrison in Angleton, Texas was established in 1907. It served as the primary home for American troops stationed in the area until 1959. The Garrison changed its name to Fort Sam Houston after the U.S. fortress was surrendered by Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The fort saw action in that war and also played a significant role in various conflicts throughout Texas and into Oklahoma. In 1959, the fort was decommissioned and handed over to local authorities. In 2006, it was sold to a private group and retains its civilian control today. As of 2019, Fort Sam Houston is an active military installation with several purposes including museum, training ground and recreational areas for soldiers and their families.

The townsite was laid out in 1909 by J. Bowers Wright and is located on a tract of land patented to him by John Denton on November 1, 1824. On January 1, 1912, Angleton incorporated as a village under the name of "Angleton". The incorporation provided for animal husbandry and school instruction; it also provided an opportunity for residents to purchase water rights from local creek beds which would then be used for irrigation purposes only In 1927, Angleton annexed part of neighboring Tyler with its population swelling to 2,500 people On October 15th of that year Judge Royce Ladd granted summary judgment to Harry Witherspoon II in a case brought against him alleging libelous statements made about him by another individual

Angleton is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,843 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Angleton was founded by families who immigrated from Ireland in 1881. The first post office was established in 1883. In 1903, Angleton acquired its current name and incorporated as a village. Prior to this time, it was known as Killenville. In 1907-08, the village constructed a school which remain in use today as Angleton Elementary School. In 1959, Angleton experienced an influx of students due to construction of Interstate 35W between Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth; however, only 907 people lived within the boundaries of Angleton at that time (the census counted residents living within 3 miles or less of any school). This change not only resulted in an increase in population but also increased development opportunities for those within the town limits as businesses began to open up and new housing became available. In 1984-85, after years of planning and hard work by various community groups including the local Chamber of Commerce and Home Builders Assn., Angleton's first block party coincided with National High School Yearbook Day - an event now celebrated annually on what would have been their 100th anniversary had they not discontinued operations six years earlier due to budget cuts made by then-Gov.-elect George W Bush Sr.. As part of National High School's centennial celebration program (including photocopying old yearbooks into plastic cards), all former high school/junior high students living within 2 miles (3 kilometers) of one another were invited to participate - something which has continued unabated to this day! Just prior to his inauguration as Governor on Jan 20th 2000 Revocation Order No.#1 ordering all remaining religious services be stopped throughout TX effective Feb 5th following review completed by state board & associated agencies...the last Block Party took place Dec 24th 2009 at Location Unknown... many memories shared along with good times haddock chicken enchiladas
