In 1876, two Frenchmen, Pierre-Alexandre Besson and Felix Lafitte set up a small café near what is now downtown Alvin. They named their business Café de France after the king of France, Louis XVIII. The first customers at Café de France were local farmers and soldiers who stopped by for refreshments on their way to battle or militia duty. In 1886, J.M. Dawson started trading coffee from his farmhouse on Elm Street in Alvin. Dawson was one of the first people to bring coffee from Africa directly to America in 1887. His beans were roasted and packaged at his farmstead until 1930 when he sold the property and lot to The Coffee Company of Alvin (now known as Peet's Coffee). On October 16th, 1907, The Coffee Company became the first company in Texas to open a store with an espresso machine! The years 1915 through 1925 saw some Of The Greatest Sons Of Texas play important roles in the establishment of Alvin's coffee culture - Wm Matson (1885-1965), Harry Furnish (1915-1984), Donny Dodds (1920-2007) and Dick’s Coffee House began serving fresh ground whole bean coffee daily from their new roasting plant located just off town square; they also served hot chocolate drinks made with Dutch cream which was brought over from Europe during that period In 1935, Mrs. Bessie Smith founded her own grocery store next door to Cafe De France - Ms Smith's Grocery & Cafe - becoming one of the early pioneers in the revival of downtown Alvin as a commercial center in TX On July 1st 1962 - five years after it opened its doors as Texaco star convenience store #2 - Texaco closed its doors forever anchoring downtown Alvin's decline into complete disrepair The last resident of Texaco Star convenience store #2 was Mr., Leroy “Lenny” Beasley who had been working there since late 1961 when it reopened under new management as Beasley's Ghetto Grill beginnings life August 15th 1958 closing December 24th 1957 due to lack patronage along with many other businesses within walking distance including Hooters restaurant across street which filed for bankruptcy three months later

Allan, Texas is a small town in the far North East corner of Texas. It was founded by Texans who came overland from New Mexico in 1853 and named it after their old home state of Illinois. Today Allan is known as the "Gateway to the Orient" due to its location at the junction of four Interstate highways. Allan has a population of over 10,000 people and includes more than 50 businesses which generate economic activity and contribute approximately $1 billion per year to the local economy. The Allan School District enrolls over 1,500 students in grades K-12. The town is home to several churches including First Baptist Church (founded in 1881), Methodist Episcopal Church (1894), and Presbyterian Church (1900). Alvin's nickname comes from its location on an important trading route connecting present day Wichita Falls, TX with California City and other towns along this corridor during those early days when Post Road was just a dirt road. In 1857, when Alvin was founded, Wichita Falls had only about 250 residents but it quickly became one of the most important agricultural centres in Tarrant County due to its fertile soil and good water resources. By 1865, Alvin had become one of the largest cotton markets in Texas thanks to its strategic location at the bend in I-10 where cotton could be shipped directly from Mississippi without having to go through Houston or Dallas/Fort Worth. The town also developed into an active trade center for farming goods such as flour, oilseed meal, cheese, apples, sugarcane etc., which brought large profits for farmers and made Allan an attractive place for businesspeople looking for a rural outpost with access to all that Tarrant County had to offer

Alvin, Texas is a small town in Beeville County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Alvin's history began with pioneers who settled there in 1847. Alvin was named for Samuel A. Alvin, a pioneer of the area and one of the first white men to settle there. The town became a stop on the Chisholm Trail during its early days and today still contains many of those pioneer homes and businesses. The First Congregational Church was built in 1848 and remains an important part of Alvin's history. It served as their worship center until 1955 when they moved to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Today the church is used as a museum open to the public and also has several classrooms used by local schools since 1948. In 1850, General Sam Houston made his headquarters at what is now known as Lamar Center on Christmas Eve after his military campaigns against Mexico City during that year's Mexican-American War (1846-48). On December 24th he issued orders to General James Fenton to move camp from Huntsville westward through Beeville County into what is now Lamar Center so that he could rest and collect supplies before continuing his campaign against Santa Anna who had taken refuge in Monterrey deep within Mexico City Reuters reported on December 25th 1850: "General Houston orders Maj'Gen James Fenton's march forward through Beeville Co., Tex., for rest." On January 3rd 1851 General Houston wrote: "I have just received information from Genl Fenton that we are marching across country towards Monterrey; I think it would be productive if we halted here this night near Lamar Center while our trains get ready." "Maj'Gen Fenton will halt two miles east of present site of Lamar Center under cover of darkness tonight; thenceforward march without interruption until reaching Monterrey next morning." Upon arriving at Lamar Center on January 4th General Houston ordered all troops resting there transferred immediately back overland to Vera Cruz where they were scheduled to start hostilities against Santa Anna two days later After spending another night at LamarCenter General Houston continued southward overland towards Vera Cruz Orders arrived from San Antonio stating Santa Anna had fled Mexico City but upon arrival discovered Mexican forces blockading their route Greetings were exchanged between Ulysses S Grant andMexican President Juarez prior to battle ensuing which led eventually to annexation by United States
Alvin, Texas is located in the Midwestern United States. The area that now comprises Alvin was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. The town of Alvin was founded on December 12, 1836, when a group of five men and one woman led by James Fenton established a trading post near present day Whitney. In 1840, the town became the county seat of Lamar County after it was split from Kaufman County. In 1865, the Indian Territory was created following the American Civil War and included much of what is now Texas. As a result of this change in status, Alvin experienced rapid growth during Reconstruction. By 1870, the population had reached 1,500 people and by 1880 it had increased to 4,000 people. However, due to railroad construction and other factors which impacted local businesses and employment opportunities, Alvin's population began to decline beginning around 1890. It remained at less than 500 people until 2000 when it increased again to 605 residents
