The Alton Coast Guard Station has been providing law enforcement and emergency services to the community for over 100 years. In 1898, the first coast guard station was established in Alton by Captain John A. Moran. The Coast Guard Station currently operates a detachment in Buena Vista which provides security for the University of Texas at Austin campus. In 1916, Captain J.H. McConnell donated land on which the present day Coast Guard Station was built. The first buildings were erected on this property and served as barracks for future inspector-in-chiefs of the Coast Guard Department’s Southern District. In 1951, Rear Admiral Charles W Kapp donated two patrol vessels to the Coast Guard Station, which became known as “Captain Cook” and “Alabama” respectively. These vessels were later used as training ships for new officers of the Coast Guard Department’s Northern District and their families. In 1984, Rear Admiral Ladd Buford presented a donation of five boats including three fiberglass lifeboats to the station; these additions made it possible for members of the public to provide assistance during coastal emergencies such as hurricanes or storms. In 1993, Commodore Cesar Chavez giftized three lifejackets to be given out free to anyone who needed them during disasters ashore or away from shoreline service; this unique gesture helped replenish inventory after several Hurricane Katrina aftermaths in New Orleans area (see below). It is through Commodore Cesar Chavez that we know that our coast guard friends never give up!

Alton is a town in Harrison County, Texas, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Alton post office was first established in 1836 and remained in operation until it closed in 1902. The name of the town comes from an early settler, Alfred Denton, who named his land "Alton" after himself and his son, Alfred Denton II. A post office called Alton was established in 1836 by John Crouch and operated until 1868. In 1881, the townsite of Alton was annexed to the city of Arlington. Incorporation as a municipality occurred on November 3, 1901 when residents voted to incorporate as a village under the name "Alton." The original plat for Alton indicated that it would contain 300 acres (121 ha). As one of several towns annexed into Arlington during its formative years, Alton experienced rapid growth due to its strategic location between Dallas and Fort Worth on I-35W; its easy access to Interstate 10; and its convenient transportation options including ALTRAX bus service and railroads like TXRails which served as common carriers connecting the two cities. By 2000, however, housing prices had escalated sufficiently within Arlington's boundaries that annexation became less likely and alontonians elected not to incorporation under this new mayor/council government system but rather continue using their existing Village organization which continued with full political power until 2002 when Mayor Clyde Hargrave decided to dissolve it all because he felt that too many people were living outside their village limits without any real connection or engagement with their community both inside and outside of it - something he had warned about since taking office six months earlier! In light of these concerns Mayor Hargrave announced plans In late 2002-early 2003 (following successful Neighborhood meetings) for a comprehensive redevelopment plan for what would become known as "TheVillage". This comprehensive redevelopment plan called for demolishing all traces of older buildings along I-35W from Alma Street southward; replacing them with mixed Use development featuring commercial space on one side while residences are built on another side facing Elm Street which forms what would later be known as Main Street - creating an open plaza at one end surrounded by businesses on each side while also providing significant public education opportunities via large playgrounds Defendant entities were identified throughout this project as well (e.g., Trinity Health Department headquarters), making possible a seamless transition from current Village zoning to proposed redeveloped zoning without having to go through lengthy planning hearings or expensive amendment requests like those currently required for other annexations such as Arlington's recent addition of Cedar Hill East Side - now home to more than 1300 people! Alton is a city in Coryell County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,611 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Alton Beattie in 1887 as a small community on the banks of the Canadian River. The city became an important center for cotton production and ranching until the early 20th century when it began to decline due to various factors including machine dependency and over-production. In 1930, Alton experienced its first urban growth when oil wells were drilled in nearby Big Bend National Park and oil production increased demand for goods produced in Alton. However, following World War II the dependence on oil dwindled and Alton's economy slowly revived throughout the late 20th century. Today, Alton is again experiencing population growth as new businesses move into the area including restaurants, retail stores and office space.
Alton was founded in 1879 by J. D. Alton and his brother-in-law, Amos W. Newcomb. The early town was located on the banks of the Brazos River, about 12 miles east of present day Dallas. In 1881, Alton became the county seat for Kaufman County and remained so until 1907 when Dallas replaced Kaufman County as the county seat. In 1915, Alton was renamed to honor General George Armstrong Custer who had died in battle two years earlier. In 1932, Alton became a city and retains its original name today
