The Alamo was the scene of one of the most significant battles in Texas history. On April 6, 1836, a force of Mexican army under General Antonio López de Santa Anna fought an engagement with U.S. forces led by General Sam Houston. After a two-hour battle, Santa Anna's army were routed and many members of his unit were killed or captured. The defeat at the hands of American rebels marked the end of Mexico's independence from Spain and began what would be a long war for Texan independence. Following the victory at San Jacinto, Governor Phillip Scott ordered all military hardware to be moved from Austin to Coleto Creek outside of town due to fears that it might fall into Mexican hands again. This order led to the creation of theTexas Rangers Corps which was raised in 1837 and served as an auxiliary militia to local militias until 1840 when it became its own separate corps under The Texas Army Colonel John Brown commanding all ranger troops statewide. In 1840, Major James Bowie organized and mounted an expedition against Texas insurgents known as "The Luckiest Boys on Earth."Led by Bowie, this force numbered 400 men and covered over 100 miles within three days successively skirmishing with small arms fire before finally encountering and routing Santa Anna's forces at Palo Alto on March 31st off a bluff overlooking San Antonio Bayou (now Donaghey). A week later Bowie again attacked Spanish installations in what is now downtown San Antonio after learning that they had been transporting supplies eastward across Travis County undetected; he crossed Roarer Street into Spanish territory unopposed on April 12th just prior to sunrise while other units closed in behind him from both sides; this marks only minor skirmishes throughout much more serious action including several hours' artillery bombardment leading up to attack which resulted in no loss or damage done except for some Americans who were overwhelmed by numbers and lack of cover

The Alamo was the site of a massacre by Mexican insurgents in 1836. The military deployment history of this event includes cannons, uniformed men, and munitions.

The Alamo is a historic site located in San Antonio, Texas. It was the scene of the Battle of the Alamo, fought on April 6, 1836, between forces of Texas Republic and Mexican Army. The battle resulted in the deaths of more than 150 Texans and 10 Mexicans. The site has been designated a National Historic Landmark. The Alamo began as an adobe mission built by Friar Francisco Xavier de Armas in 1796. It became an official Texan town in 1836 when it was added to the Mexican province of Coahuila y Tejas under General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The mission's walls were destroyed by Native Americans in 1838 and its inhabitants were forced to flee to Mexico City. In 1846, Texan General Sam Houston reconquered Austin from Mexico and used the ruins as his headquarters at Congress Hall before setting out for San Antonio to claim his share of the republic's inheritance. On January 26, 1847, he tendered his resignation to President James Kenedy for reasons that remain unknown; he had been ill since December 4 that year. In 1860, during American Civil War (1861-1865), Confederate General John Buford besieged Fort Hood on November 5-6 inside what is now downtown San Antonio but failed because Union forces arrived too late (the fort had been abandoned about a year earlier). Ulysses S Grant ordered Major General Oliver Otis Howard’s 2nd Brigade (5th Cavalry)to retake Fort Hood on November 11 after learning about Confederate efforts from dashing courier John Crain while visiting nearby missions: one at Sam Houston Park where Hezekiah Hale had unsuccessfully defended himself two days earlier against several hundred Confederate troopers; another at Mission Concepción south of town which was also abandoned after being occupied by Confederates on October 29; and still another near Slaughterhouse Creek east of town which Union troops burned on December 12 after discovering Confederate documents stored there among cropstalks.] A week later Grant wrote author Stephen Easley: “This post will be held until better information arrives from below or we are able to transfer it successfully…I must actuate my usual policy that unless our enemies can be utterly crushed we should not surrender without a good cause” Aftermath: “On Tuesday night Lieut.-Gen.(Rear Admiral) David Dixon Porter succeeded in getting through with some men & cannons all safe & sound – thus restoring order throughout these parts” By this time most people realized they wouldn't get help from above so surrendered] No fewer than 126 Texans were killed or wounded at Ft Hood while around 30 Englishmen including surgeon Lt.-Col.(Dr.) Samuel Jourdan died trying to save them.] Although Grant initially thought capture would lead only toreatment and perhaps death for many Texans captured at Hood he decided against allowing slavery here as it would complicate matters with both sides control over large numbers of slaves[/source] While Grant originally thought capture would lead only totreatment and perhaps death for many Texans captured at Hood he decided against allowing slavery here as it would complicate matters with both sides control over large numbers of slaves

Over time, these items also became a way for family and friends to show support for the soldier in uniform.

The Alamo is a historical landmark located in San Antonio, Texas. The fortifications surrounding the site were built to protect the city from Indian attacks and to defend it from French and Spanish forces. The Alamo was founded by General Sam Houston in 1836 as a defense against Mexican attack. It served as an interim capital of Mexico for two years before becoming the permanent capital of Texas in 1839. The battle that took place at the Alamo resulted in three dead and many wounded on both sides. The siege lasted more than two months and ended with Mexican forces withdraws inside the walls of the fortifications. However, Mexican casualties were much greater than Texan ones; over 20 Mexicans died from enemy fire, while only six Texans were killed. As a result of this event, symbolically and materially, Texas became an American state in 1845. Since its inception, the Alamo has been visited by tourists from all over the world who come to experience its unique architecture, history, and culture. Today, it remains one of San Antonio's most popular tourist attractions due to its natural beauty as well as its rich cultural heritage which includes Methodist worship services being held every Sunday at 4 p.m., live music events taking place throughout the year (including Christmas concerts), educational exhibits on various aspects of Texan history each month (September through May), plus delicious TX cuisine available at several restaurants within walking distance of theFortress!
