Addison is a small town in Robertson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,261 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Addison is located on the border of Richardson and Plano counties and straddles the Trinity River. The original land that made up Addison was surveyed by Captain John Armstrong in 1839 and set aside for a military post called "Fallsborough". In 1851, when Baylor University was founded in Austin, Texas, Addison became one of its first schools. At that time it consisted of just a few homes and a handful of settlers. Robertson County seat from 1857 to 1870 The courthouse moved to Addison from Garland in 1870 In 1893, when Baylor University closed its doors for good and all but one student left for private academies or other institutions throughout Texas, Addison's only school reopened as Wellesley Female Academy with new buildings and renamed after Mrs. Houston Stewart (the daughter of Sam Houston), widow of General Sam Houston Mrs. Houston Stewart served as director until her death in 1935 In 1941 during World War II an airfield named for Mrs. Houston Steward opened near Addison to house Boeing P-47 Thunderbolt pilots training for the war effort After World War II there were no more students at Wellesley Female Academy so it reverted back to its original name which was then changed back to Addion Female School again before reverting back to their original name once again in 2014
