The first mention of tactical coffee can be found in 1892 when Captain E. J. Beardsley wrote about his experiences during a military campaign in Mexico. Soon after, Dutchman’s Coffee became well-known for their quality beans and cups. In 1924, Captain Beardsley founded the American Coffee Company (ACC) in order to bring quality coffee to soldiers stationed in Abilene, TX. ACC soon became one of the most respected cafes in town. The company would continue to grow and improve their products over the years until 1989 when they merged with Starbucks Corporation. The first coffeehouses in Abilene were the Coffee House and The Dutchman. In 1847, John Haines started the First National Bank in downtown Abilene and began selling coffee. The first significant purchase of coffee was from Nicholas-Jacques Demers, a French trader, who bought two sacks of beans at $1 each from Mennonites living in Houston. In 1865, three men - Wm. Giddings, Denton Ritchie, and James Reese - founded the First National Bank of Abilene with a six-pound bag of beans they had purchased from Nicholas-Jacques Demers. They continued to sell beans until 1869 when they moved to a building on Market Street and began buying more beans direct from farmers around the area. In 1870, John Haines died leaving his business to his son Jno., who operated it until 1886 when it was sold to George Prentice Jr.. Prentice continued to operate it as the Primate Coffee Company until 1919 when it merged with The Dutchman Coffeehouse which became the Abilene Coffee Company.

In 1959 voters passed an ordinance establishing UTHA (Universities Health Science Area) which included The University of Texas at Austin within it; UTHA served as both an academic community and practical outreach center for UT Austin students living throughout Travis County until 1983 when it merged with Houston Methodist Hospital to formuphemuously called Baylor CollegeHouston Medical Center or Baylor Health Care System (BHCS). Immediately adjoining UT Austin's campus liesarily rich medical marijuana research center operated by two private industry giants: GW Pharmaceuticals plc., makers of Sativex®, and Time Warner Incorporated's Buried Alive Therapeutics LLC., makerof Epidiolex®).
